I have a plow at my house that was made up by Mr John @wallfish. 

I assume he combined two, 42-in plows.

Measures about 60.5" across if I remember correctly. 

 

I've I've been mulling over putting that on Cinnamon horse for winter duty this year. 

 

 

Dennis get you some roller chain on the front of whatever and you'll wonder what you ever did with your life before they were there. 

They can be had off of the flea Bay for about $20 including an extra master link.

Eric I've had new roller chain in a box for years now, even before I saw John's invention and I still slide all over!  Oh!  You are suggesting that I actually install the chain?

Part of my problem is that since joining this forum I now know more than I have time to implement!  Terrible problem!

 

If I quit buying tractors maybe I would have time to fix one!  (Gads, please don't let the woman of the household know I said that!)  What we say here stays here doesn't it?

I've got some 48" blades but NO 54".  But unless I were to add Wallfish's roller chains on the front I wouldn't be steering, the 54"s would be.

I’ve got the two links on the 417-A with two stage blower. All around I agree Dennis that the two links are better especially when it comes to the ride. Also pay no attention to my F-350 powerstroke with 8’ Fisher plow in the background! Plowing my driveway with that is no where near as fun as the snowblower! I use the truck for my snowplowing business.

I did a 42" to 50" with my very first blade, then found a decent but bottom worn 54" then found myself a 56" that was originally made for WH ZTR mower.

I've used 2-links for so long that I'd forgotten why until I couldn't find my other 2-links and through on the only pair I could find, 4-links, then I bounced up and down for the rest of the day.  They work!  Half the time!  Then bounce in-between links!  Got to find my other 2-links or add links to these!

Very nice job!  And works well without roller chain on the fronts? 

I've actually used my 48" to help me steer uphill out of an incline that I otherwise couldn't climb!  Not so good trying to stay straight going down the driveway though.

Just for the record Dennis. I have the same roller chain set-up on the front of Cinnamon that you do. Setting in a box in the shed. 

 

 

I do have a VERY heavy front end. With 110 lb of fluid up there I rarely have a serious issue steering.

Pretty sure I know where my box of roller chain is.  I really should do that soon.  I have NO front wheel weights and I've never filled front tires even though we both know how important weight is.

My fronts are oversized and have 5 gallons per tire. 55 lbs each. Plus the fact that there's more metal and rubber out there. 

All told the front is weighted down about 120 lbs.

Sometimes it gets a bit sideways but lift the blade a touch and it straightens out and put it back down, what really helps now is 1) the 5 position angle quadrant (don't full angle) 15° instead of 30° in the heavy stuff 2) I'm running AGs on all 4 corners now and seem to have more lateral grip IMO.

All makes sense.  I've got to lift mine from time to time.  I have down pressure too and there's times I can't push full hard and still go straight.

I don't foresee ags on the front for mine but I do intend to add roller chain.

This might be a good use for some dirt tires.  I have a mid-mount for an XI too!  But I'd take a mid-mount for either a Sears/Roper, Bolens or a C-series WH.

By the way, for those new to Bolens tube frames, look at that front axle AND all that brown under the white grille is solid cast iron!  It needs to be sturdy since the front attachments connect directly to the front axle!  Beefy little GTs.

I have some sort of rib front tire and Ags on all my tractors except one and they don’t do any damage to my yard. Plus all of my Ags are loaded. Most have at least one set of wheel weights installed.  My C-161 Ags are loaded and have inside and outside weights because I push a 54 inch snow blade with it. I run them that way year around because I like the stability that it provides. I used to have chains for plowing but on my steep concrete drive, unless it was covered with ice, it didn’t provide any benefit. On my dad’s asphalt driveway, having chains was actually dangerous because it was so steep. It was like ice skates on ice. I say put them on one of your tractors and enjoy them.

I don't know the grade of my chains. They sure do look like those....
