417Horse 40 #1 Posted January 3, 2021 I've had my 417 since it was new in mid '86 and have never thought about an add-on oil filter kit for it until now. The engine is a KT17 Series 2. What is the part # for the oil filter kit? Also, where does it attach? If there's anyone with a picture of theirs that would be great. - Thanks

bds1984 1,466 #4 Posted January 3, 2021 I performed that very upgrade to the Series II in my C175. The part number for the oil filter plate is 52 181 03 and was able to find a few for sale on various websites. They are the same as the Magnums so that should help you find one but also keep in mind that some Series II engines do not have the provisions for an oil filter. This was a very straight forward upgrade, two bolts off, gasket and filter adapter on, two bolts on again, and finally the filter with some oil. I did have to notch out the engine tins slightly only because I used a longer filter. Now if I had to do this upgrade all over again with cost not being an issue, I'd go for the remote filter kit only because the filter is a bit of a pain to access, but once a year isn't going to be a deal breaker for me. There are a few informative posts after mine that will help you out.

Bought my stuff of the E auction site. Search “kohler filter adapter”. Engine plate/gasket and filter mount are what you really need. You can make hoses. 1
417Horse 40 #6 Posted January 3, 2021 Thanks, bds, for the part # and link. Fortunately, it looks like mine has the plate (crud removed for clarity) with A and B port plugs that could be removed. In the second pic, there are 2 hole fillers in the sheet metal that, in my opinion, could be used to extend the supply and return to the filter if it was mounted remotely. I guess that's what those holes are for? If I add the filter, I will probably mount it remotely - just would have to decide where to mount the filter and bracket.
19richie66 17,577 #7 Posted January 3, 2021 Those holes are for the oil lines. 👍
417Horse 40 #8 Posted January 3, 2021 Thanks, richie, where would you suggest I mount the filter? It would be nice to mount it somewhere that's not behind the drive belt cover.
19richie66 17,577 #9 Posted January 4, 2021 That I have no clue. Not a lot of room. If you made the hoses long enough, I believe there is room below the headlights. Small bracket on the frame would work. Run them out and down below the flywheel towards the front. At least that was my plan. 👍
417Horse 40 #10 Posted January 4, 2021 After looking at the area between the engine sheet metal and the steering column, I think I'll exit the engine sheet metal with the hoses and mount the filter bracket on the frame and have the filter bottom pointing toward the drive belt and guard. I'll just plan on removing the belt guard once a year to change the filter. Thanks again for your help.
