He would hook up the garden trailer, and fill it with water buckets or straw, then put the tractor in 1st low and let it just idle along while he spread the straw or watered his plants. I've used it on the same tractor for backing our big trailer around. But I suspect that without the extra reduction that trailer empty is pushing the limits of what these tractors should do. I'd like to get a 6 or 8 speed for my 800, but that trans has 3rd gear issues and just generally makes me mad, so I figure if I'm swapping the trans out already I might as well pick up low range. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

The shifting and gear changing really doesn't bother me because I pretty much spend my time going from reverse to second and rarely anything else and you just kind of muscle memory a pattern into that.... Except for that part about having to use my left foot three bajillion times. I'm certainly curious enough about using a hydro to spend a few hundred bucks and a bunch of hours mechanically restoring a tractor and adding a lift to it... I'm not sure I'd be separating Parts on that one but as stated above it's your tractor. IMHO if you really want something that's going to be the ultimate workhorse your best bet is to find a 12 or 16 horse engine and swap it into that tractor instead of disassembling it. kasey54 305 #46 Posted January 6, 2021 I think a B-60 is a fantastic unit. Tills, plows, and tows just wonderfully.. I have several 3 speeds ( 701, 854, 855, commando 8 , B-80 and some others) that I have often wished had the low range. I have never felt low range was wasted on anything I have it on.
