Mr2mike83 71 #1 Posted December 31, 2020 Hi, My name is Mike. I am in south eastern Pa near Morgantown/Reading area. I just acquired what I believe to be a 1960 suburban 400. I bought it from a guy in Lancaster. It had a average quality restoration done to it years ago and it runs and drives and is in overall nice condition. I plan to fix a few things on it and make it a little more user friendly for my young son to drive. Looking forward to gaining more information about this cool tractor. 6
WHNJ701 4,165 #3 Posted December 31, 2020 Just be careful they are very light in the front end, doesn't take much to get the front end up in the air. Looks like a nice machine
Pullstart 62,922 #4 Posted December 31, 2020 Mike! It looks like it has an extra belt guard on it... did it come with a snowblower or attachment of some sort?

Mr2mike83 71 #8 Posted December 31, 2020 Thanks for the warm welcome. Yes I believe that is the deck drive belt guard as mentioned above. The motor is a tecumson with electric start, but it is not hooked up. I am still learning about these little tractors but I am noticing things that need attention. The gas tank is plastic so I would like to change that out. Also the shifter is very sloppy which I posted about in the transmission section already. The throttle cable and choke cable need to be hooked up and I would like to change the fluids. I’ll take some more pictures this weekend. I’ve only had it a few days and I already want to buy another one! haha 3

rjg854 11,389 #12 Posted December 31, 2020 @Mr2mike83 that's wonderful that you're hooked already These are great machines that's why we get addicted so easily. You could do a lot worse.

953 nut 55,329 #14 Posted January 1, 2021 Children are attracted to these little Suburbans Add some weights to the front to keep him from doing a wheelie.

I'd love to find one for my kids. The bigger one is almost tall enough to handle the 800. Last time I ran across a Suburban/RJ for sale it was a barely running pile, needed lots of work, guy wanted $800. I was like, dude, bought a running 855 with plow and deck for $500 a year ago. Keep a look out for a panzer, and they are easy for the kids to drive.
Zeek 2,286 #17 Posted January 1, 2021 Welcome, you have been lured I used to live in Dillsburg, PA until 2018 (have fun with the snow ). Your selection of WH tractors is much better there than in the south. Nice tractor you have there! I'd ditch the wheel barrow tires on the front and look for some stock ones or reproductions. They look like this on this fine example from @AMC RULES
Mr2mike83 71 #18 Posted January 1, 2021 I thought that these tires looks like wheel barrow tires! I guess I’ll add that to the list of things to do. Here’s a few more pictures.
Mr2mike83 71 #21 Posted January 1, 2021 Not sure why the decals on the engine are upside down? Was that a thing?
Mr2mike83 71 #25 Posted January 1, 2021 I also picked up this 1971 Sears Custom 8m within the same week. I seem to have added a tractor hobby over night somehow haha. This is my workshop. It is small but it is my favorite place to be. 3
