What type of spark plug boot and connector for K161?

Recommended Posts

I went to replace the prong style spark plug connector on my pull start K161 to a rubber boot push down. The one I ordered here doesn’t fit the small wire gauge. Does anyone have a part number or know what style I would need?

Is this the style that works the screw one type? https://www.ebay.com/itm/NGK-LB05EP-5k-resistor-spark-plug-boot-cap-cover-snowmobile-atv-motorcycle-/222391571174?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292

thanks

I ordered a wire set for my 753 from them, different style with the coil mounted on the exterior, plugged into the coil.

On this pull start style the coil is fused to the wire, so I’m just looking to replace the connector at the spark plug, I didn’t see any from them but I would think this is a pretty common thing to replace.

I'm looking at your picture. The wire end looks correct for the wire you have pictured. You are supposed to fold the bare wire back over the rubber insulation. Then put the non crimp side of the connector over the bare wire and insulation and crimp the opposite side ( The open end ) to the wire insulation. If you have a Napa near by I can give you part numbers. These pics here I am crimping on a coil terminal but the plug end is the same. Silver spark plug connector is Napa 727006 Boot is 727402

Awesome that makes sense, in that case I think I had the right part, just did it wrong. so the rubber wire insulation sits on top of the folded copper (on the non crimp side) and then you crimp down on the top side with only rubber?

Also is there any special crimp tool or do you just fold those sides over and crimp flat with some pliers?

Special crimp pliers but they are like 50 bucks. You can see them in my picture. Regular pliers will work but you have to be careful.

thanks so it looks like I have the right crimper, does the nipple go on the open side or the side with the wire copper?

also I did lose a couple strands and nicked the wire should I cut it back and redo that?

Those aren't the right pliers. What you have there are the jaws to crimp solderless  wire connectors. Plug wire crimpers are bigger. Those pliers will mash the terminal.

After the end is crimped, use lots of silicone spray and slide the terminal into the small end of the boot and push until it appears at the plug opening of the boot

Good to know thanks, how’s that copper wire look should I cut off and redo that since a couple strands are broken off?

CRMAVERICK,  another thing that helps CONDUCTIVITY  and  installation and removal is DIELECTRIC GREASE , that silicone boot will slide on and seal off that electrical contact  with no effort , pete
