briankd 817 #1 Posted December 25, 2020 i pulled the piston out of this 301 to replace the rod because i replaced the crank due to it being turned wrong. looking at the bore it has some score marks but cannot feel nothing running fingernail across them . piston skirt also had some scuffing but not worried about it . this only ran for roughly 3 hrs . should i not worry about it and put it back together? bore has crosshatch . i thought about running a hone thru it but i am planning on reuseing the piston and rings . any input on this apreceated Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

At 3hrs your rings should have have already started to seat & you will never get them back into the exact position that they were in. briankd 817 #8 Posted December 25, 2020 i pulled the top 2 rings off piston and measured them in the bore and it is .017 . according to the kouler spec that is ok. I remember now when i first fired this up after rebuild i didn't have the governor set right and it did run off went pretty high on rpm . like a dumb _ $$ . I hit the throttle a second time before i realized what was happening. maybe the over speed caused this? i will run a hone thru this and put new rings on it and the piston skirt i will lightly hit it with some fine scotch brite pad . and call it good .like i said i can't feel scratches with finger nail 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
briankd 817 #9 Posted January 24, 2021 got her put back together today . the rod to crank has the correct clearance now after plasti gauging it has .0025 which is max on the kouler spec. need to get a battery in her and she should fire up . anything else goes to hell I may have this for sale 3 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
