Cracked Gas Cap

Recommended Posts

MAWHguy2019

This came off my 312-8.

Why does this cracking occur? I have the same situation on another non-WH tractor and it got my curious as to the cause.

Finally, does anyone know if Toro sells a replacement? Or is this NLA and just go with a Kelch made one?

My cap has the same issue. I put a drop of oil on the clear lens to clear it up and don't worry about it but I keep mine in a garden shed.

Plastic just shrinks with age and I'm sure the gas fumes don't help anything!!

I use the threaded gas caps from Tractor Supply. No gauge in them, but pretty easy to unscrew the cap to peek inside the tank to check the fuel level. And pretty cheap.Like 6 bucks.

I keep my lenses clean and clear with Marvel Mystery oil....age and fuel will do this to a plastic part over time, but if you feed the plastic, it will survive,,,I have no issues on 5 machines with the rear tank.

Hope this helps, John

Took the bottom off a plastic peanut butter jar.  Cut to size, drilled a small breather hole and glued into place with epoxy.  Has been working fine for five years.
