Man, I found those on the net...regular ones like $4.95, x large a little more...

Total around $26, but shipping was $20 or so...

can't believe the shipping is that much for 4 pens.

I'm thinking about getting some oil based paint markers at OfficeMax...prolly be alright as long as they're oil based right ?

Whadda ya think ?

As long as they are paint you should be fine, I was lucky I found mine at a local ACE hardware.

Maybe a rattlecan paint in your prefered Color sprayed little in the cap and a fine pinstripe brush works also.

Should be onsite Materials.

@Tractorhead  yeah...what you described is exactly what I had in mind...

Until WVHillbilly520h showed off his paint markers...lol:lol:

May still revert back to it...

that's a method I've used before with decent results.

Well the small one fit the lettering near perfect no brush streaks, but flow of paint the biggest issue with the markers.

@WVHillbilly520H  I just ordered 3 of the 4 markers at ACE online ( pick up in store free )

I think the wifey found the 4th online Amazon Prime so free shopping...

I've used these type markers before doing metal work and experienced the problems of paint flow...always seems too little, or too much...

hardly ever just right...but like you said, go slow and keep a lint free cloth handy

Looking for suggestions on refinishing tire rims on my two horses......Initial thought was to sand, prime with etching primer, and paint with the recommended Rustoleum Ivory.    Would media blast and powdercoat be better alternative if price is reasonable.

one set is getting "new shoes" so rims will be free of rubber !

anyone have theirs blasted and how much ?

TIA and Merry Christmas to my Red Square Family !

The one thing you will need to take into consideration when deciding is the surface quality of the wheels. Meaning, if they are very rust pitted, sandblasting alone will not remove the pits. It will only "clean out the pits" so to speak. You will see the imperfections in the powder coat. I know that from experience  Fortunately, you can sand off powder coat . . .

If you sand (or blast) then primer and paint, you can correct ALL surface imperfections and have a very nice smooth finish. Depends on what you are looking for. The ones I did were just show tractors so I wanted the latter. I'd say they chip easier when painted if you are working it, but you can touch that up of the same color paint.

Just a little tip. No matter whether you end up painting or coating the wheels, when mounting the tire, insert the back side of the wheel into the tire first so that when you insert the tire irons to get the bead over the rim, you will be working at the rear of the tire, and not touching the freshly painted/coated front side of the wheel.

@WVHillbilly520H @Tractorhead

So I picked up my 520H rims and hubcaps from the powder coat shop today...

Rims...gloss white

Hubcaps...shiney chrome

What do you think ?

I'm really pleased with the hub caps...$10 a piece.

The shiney chrome is a powder coating...not true chrome plating.

Nice!  Loving the hubcaps!  Didn't know powder coat could do that!

You know, I'm guessing not everyone knew that!  Blasting can remove rust down to the bottom of the pits but could make the pits appear even worse!  Wheel might even need welding/ brazing or soldering to fill hole or bad pits.

I 100% love the "shiny chrome" if you can find out what brand powder they used I will see if my guy can get it.

@WVHillbilly520H

Here is the info. you asked for:

Both finishes are regular powder coating as far as I know.

Wheels

HG ( I presume means high gloss) White Polyester- manufactured by PPG

Hub Caps

Super Chrome- manufactured by Tiger Drylac

I'd recommend powder coat, it's much tougher and easy to do yourself with the right kit.

I posted chapter and verse on it (somewhat off the original topic!) here:
