Front wheel weights

I'm having no luck finding a set of bolt on front wheel weights so I have a idea I'm going to try and make some.  I was wondering how many pounds are they usually or what is recommended for a tractor that is used for pushing snow

35-40 lbs ? Don't know about the exact weight of them but I run #40 roller chain on the fronts without any weight for steering traction.

i was going to do this on my 857 i have the chain to do it but I have washer fluid in the tires makes a mess and a hassle to deflate then inflate the tires to make chain tight

Could you squeeze the tire enough if you Put a ratchet strap beside where you want the chain?

i have them narrower tires and they are stiff

I know what you mean. 

 

Might be worth the time and mess to get the chains on. ...... (Said the guy who hasn't done it on his yet either)

Your not lookin hard enough then Moe, lots of them out there.... make sure you take a bank roll when you do find them tho. 

I see them all the time but one would think they were cast in gold. 

Best bet is tractor shows in the summer. 

Couple guys here have filled shot brake drums and rotors with lead or concrete and made to fit. Not sure of the weight but you can't have too much. Always hang weight off the frame too. 

I can't do the chain thing .... expensive asphalt.

I have oversized tires that are fluid-filled on Cinnamon Horse which added about 115 or 120 pounds to front of the tractor. 

 

That works VERY well. 

 

I also don't use it to mow or have any terrain that I mind getting ruts or compression marks. 

 

Another good weight option I've seen is to use the wheel itself as a mold to cast concrete which could even contain pieces of steel. Haven't tried it myself but it looks pretty simple to do.

Moe:

I made a pair of 25 pound front weights out of cast iron barbell weights for the 854 8 speed. Drilled 2 tap drill holes thru and tapped a bit more than 3/4 way thru for 1/2-13 threaded rod. Not the easiest thing to do, as the grain structure varies and you need a new tap. A side benefit is that the large diameter keeps the snow out of the rim. Like Eric, these tires have tubes and are fluid filled - steering is greatly improved.

Your ride looks like mine bill  I ended up using some cast iron main line water lids the shop was scrapping  they are 17lbs ea.  It's a start now all it has to do is snow.

Nice set up whats that front attach matic bracket used for?

Good eye.  I mounted a sears sickle bar to it a few years ago  It was a attachment I made work took a lot of tinkering but I made it work

If you have 8" wheels you can use Craftsman (18"?) Rear weights. I had a set kicking around and they bolted right on. 

On the plus side, they can be had pretty cheap if you keep your eyes open

I was considering using Cast lead discs, but decided against it, mainly because I couldn't come up with a simple, reliable way to mount them (I've read that drilling lead is challenging).
