Rear attach matic fitment issue?

Hey Guys,

 

Trying to help a buddy out who is a fellow Wheel Horse 5xi owner. He bought a reproduction rear attach matic so he could run run a snow plow and he’s concerned with the clearance between the attach matic and the transmission housing. Can someone who has the factory rear attach matic tell me if the cross bar is supposed to be touching the bottom of the housing like in the pic?

I have not installed my plow on the xi as of yet but I have the measurement from an OE one for the bracket I built. 

That looks like it will not hurt anything that housing if pretty tough. It appears to just touch. I am guessing the bar slid right in place.

He said he had to tap it on with a block of wood.

Just a thought could you put a spacer under the two mounts that the tachomatic bolts to under the axle and give you another 1/4 in clearance

Yep, I’d get some 1/4” or 1/8” even plate and build some shims.  A couple holes in each one will keep it from coming apart.

yep a shim between axle and bracket will clear that up, shame those are pretty pricey. I would let the person who made it know there is a problem so others don't have the same issue.

x 1/4 x 1-1/2 or 2 wide would work. Hole spacing is 2 5/8 on center. Providing the 3/8 mounting bolts have enough thread.

MOE 1965, good call on that !  simple / easy  space off  on mount area ,will retain mount strength , yet add the important spacing needed in that area .  that looks like a " how can I make this better ? "  situation .  pete

Plus, if I’m looking at that right it will lower the rear of the blade frame a quarter of an inch and that will give you that much additional height/lift on the blade itself or more.

Thanks for all the replies. That was his thought as well to shim it. Just stinks that you buy something and immediately have to make a modification.  I guess that’s what happens when you can’t find OEM anymore.

@bizzo15 Put my plow on the xi today and it touched the housing. It did slide right in place easily. I am going to grind a hair on the top of the bar when it is off the next time. There is only a small area of concern.

Glad to hear it Joe, my friend decided to shim his so there's clearance.
