Was wondering if anyone uses skid shoes on their plow blades... Any thoughts I would like to hear them.

Dad made skid shoes for his 48” blade that he runs on Clyde. 62F5C30A-2A4D-444E-8525-158433681CF2.jpeg.85d50c3fcd09bf8898eda851d42a40ee.jpeg

Interestingly, he has plenty of traction with the American Farmer implement tires and Tri ribs on the front for steering.

If you pinch zoom this picture you can see one of the shoes.  Dad has a gravel drive and has found the shoes to work well for him.  I have a 60” Haban that I run on my Diesel Cub and it also has shoes for my gravel drive.  I usually set it at about 5/8” clearance and go with it.  Occasionally if I build up enough of an “ice/snow pack” on the drive, I’ll drop the blade all the way down.

I will get better footage as the winter progresses.  This was teh shakedown run for my C-175 and towards the end, the lift cylinder wasnt holding the blower up and it was leaking some oils... new seal kit is on its way... next question....   how do i remove the lift cylinder?  I will be working in the frigid cold so i want to have a gameplan so im not futzing around with stuff.

Thanks!2020-12-17_13-20-47_075.jpeg.c7d9a676f8e6371ddbf8521e8acaece4.jpeg2020-12-17_12-31-33_206.jpg.4a2de334d7cea240aacf270c63fd2941.jpg

Make sure you search for the spot light variety.  Most of what is out there that isn't an arm and a led are flood lights.  Although bright, the beams don't reach out far enough.  I learned the expensive way!  My plow tractor is the only one of my rigs that doesn't have LEDs yet.

I know many wont want to hear this, but I am a bit envious of the plowing!  I am sitting here waiting with two rigs ready to go!

i always though the LED flood lights would be best.  no im questioning what too get...  one of each maybe?

I don't normally try to generalize a situation cuz I can be really particular about certain things but I think if you don't have any lights now, any type of light is going to be better if you don't know what they are when you order them.

@WHX24 Jim gave me a link to some small 2" round LEDs that look good on older tractors.

I have the stock par36 lights in the c-175 dont know if they are spots or floods....They make Par 36 leds now that will fit right in the stock location so i want to try those and maybe mount a light bar on the snowblower because the chute blocks the light.

WHX??

These are what EB mentioned Lights they would be best for to the rear for backing down.

You get on the jungle site and browse you will find lots of them and maybe even better for night chucking.

I did a thread on those PARs see if I can find it.

light bar on the snowblower

That's not the worse idea... on the blower itself might get snowed over or vibration might be an issue.  Generally the higher you can mount them the better but if you don't have a cab...

I like that idea ... just make VERY SURE that the lights are okay for a high vibration environment

wish i had a cab!

I got the idea to mount it on the blower here: ...Its mounted with magnetic bases so no need to drill holes...  could also try mounting them on the hood since they can be moved around

will do...they are cheap anyways...  i would get magnetic bases so i don't need to drill any holes.  that way i can try them mounted on the blower or on the hood of the tractor

What that with a cab on it? A 520? @lynnmor

It is a 1991 520H that I bought new.  Over 1500 hours now and running strong,  That "snow" was the worst ever, the video was on a portion of the driveway that had less depth but even there the Onan was maxed out.  I do three large driveways and it took six hours when including trimming up with a plow.

Like that idea even better. I hate drilling holes in any of my tractors.

Strap 'em to your head--not too much vibration and they are always pointed to where you are looking?

Awesome idea on those brackets. I set myself a note to look at those later.

We almost always plow or remove snow in the dark and 9 times out of 10 I do have a headlamp on.

They are every kind of handy and then some but unfortunately not anywhere near the brightness of two or three auxiliary lights.

These are from a couple years ago... I will say I had a tall chutes single stage for years before the 2stage it was 99% the same results except for really wet/slushy snow or DOT plow banks.

No pictures from yesterday but I did snap a picture today after cleaning up the edges some more. We did not get near what some of you got. We ended up with 10 inches.
