ebinmaine 69,898 #1 Posted December 16, 2020 Trina's 867 has some gasoline around the cap on the tank but also on the underside of the hood. Not at all what I would call a profuse leak but obviously something that shouldn't be there. What's the remedy?
oldlineman 1,492 #2 Posted December 16, 2020 New cap gasket, not fill as quite full. I don't know just some ideas.
ebinmaine 69,898 #3 Posted December 16, 2020 Just now, oldlineman said: New cap gasket That's one of the things I was thinking as well. How do you check for one of these to have a clogged vent?
pfrederi 18,216 #4 Posted December 16, 2020 Lots of different caps My lawn ranger has an inner cap that is pitched to keep any gas that get splashed up to run back down.Dont't know about yours but simple test blow into the vent hole
wallfish 17,231 #5 Posted December 16, 2020 The gas cap should have some type of baffle in it. And not be just a hole in the metal cap for the gas to escape when sloshing around. The vent hole in the baffle should be offset to the vent hole in the cap. The gas will have a difficult time getting from under the hole in the baffle to exiting up through the vent hole in the gas cap. Some caps used a paper gasket type of baffle, some were cork and modern caps are plastic with offset holes for the vent
pfrederi 18,216 #6 Posted December 16, 2020 This is L-107 cap 2 pieces ans wallfish said the holes are offset and the inner cap slants to one side to return and splash back to eh tank. 1 1
SylvanLakeWH 26,704 #7 Posted December 16, 2020 Just spit balling, can you make a gasket with off set hole that stays in place with edge friction? Keeps vent action but does not allow gas to slosh through off set holes? This concept:
Lee1977 6,939 #8 Posted December 16, 2020 Those old gas caps were two piece with a cork or rubber seal is it all still there? It's probably rusted shut, take it a part remover the rust poke the hole or holes open oil it provide a new seal. Here is one off an 8 hp Briggs that is rusted shut.
Sam Pasch 449 #9 Posted December 23, 2020 I wonder if that's just an 867 thing because mune does it too. I just keep the tank at about 3/4.
