haydendavid380 759 #1 Posted December 13, 2020 I have a 312 and a B80 Last month I purchased a snow thrower that I didn't get to inspect a head of time. The guy's dad died and was liquidating his estate, and all he knew was that it was in great condition and that his dad bought it and hadn't ever used, and that it was for a wheel horse. When it showed up I was happy to see a mint tall chute.....until I noticed I didn't see any pulleys in the normal spots. Ended up being a 79262 for a 200 series, and of no use for me. This morning I was able to do some quick horse trading to get a nice solid older unit. At that point I was unaware that they even made a pre tach a matic snow thrower. This one ended up being a STR-324. Now I'm stuck with every thrower except one that I need. How did the 60s tractors mount up front? Is there anyway to make the STR work on a tach a matic tractor? A long bolt went through the mount and holes in the side of the frame. 5/8 " OD bar welded or attached the the blower mount arms. 5/8 is the bar size for the Tach A Matic There has to be some threads on here of people that have already done it. gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,033 #4 Posted December 13, 2020 The bolt at the rear is 3/8" x 8-1/2". The hole in the frame is much larger so the bushings on the bolt above make the 3/8" bolt work. The drive belt for the STR-324 is 1/2" wide and the correct blower would use a 5/8" wide belt. Garry Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
bds1984 1,429 #5 Posted December 13, 2020 I share your frustration. I've seen many ridiculously cheap deals on snowblowers by me but they are all for vertical shaft machines. I haven't attempted this yet (I hope to soon), but I speculate with a few hours of wrenching and light fabricating, I could use one of those nice tall chute snowblowers with the attachment & tension hardware and re-route the chain drive/sprocket system from a B/C/3,4,5 series snowblower. peter lena 8,583 #9 Posted December 13, 2020 PFREDERI , excellent frame set up reference pictures ! any of that solid round stock is available at local h/w store , that mount bracket is often forgotten for LUBRICATION at spring tension pulley swing arm , typically solid rust , detailing my CHUTE , BASE AREA , MOUNT BRACKET AND AUGER DRIVE CHAIN / ADJUSTMENT , makes those throwers operate with total ease and function . never let the rotational parts starve for chain and cable lubricant . very good reference site for those in trouble , pete Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
