Crmaverick 91 #1 Posted December 9, 2020 Brought this 704 home a couple weeks ago. All original paint and even tires. Came out of PA a couple years ago up to MA. I have a 36” square style deck for it. Planning to use it for mowing and towing. Nice patina, and nice to see the hood has not been cut under the steering shaft. I do not have any "yank start" round hoods, only electric. So.... make sure its in neutral when you pull the rope!!! Bill That’s all I could find that was missing to. I flipped the starter rope so it can be done easily while seated. Cold started second pull in the 20s this week. I went through it alittle, cleaned and turned the carter carb, new plug, points look brand new just had to correct the gap. New fuel line and filter. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

ri702bill 8,352 #6 Posted December 9, 2020 How about the Unidrive fluid and the condition of the shifter boot?? The shifter acts like a wick when it rains or snows and if the boot is deteriorated it lets the moisture into the case - makes for a milky white mess. Racinbob 11,100 #10 Posted December 9, 2020 That's a dandy! That's kinda a bucket list tractor for me. My Dad's first Wheel Horse was a 1960 400 that he bought new. Then he 'upgraded' to a 704 in 1964. I latched on to the 400 and would like to also have a 704. Bill One nice feature of the 604/704 series is that the steering wheel usually will come right off if you happen to buy one. Really nice if there's a Tecky under the hood! years and years ago (actually decades) I was unable to remove the steering wheel on our 704 I was a dumb kid then - now I'm older (and a dumb adult) I cut the end of the hood near the steering wheel - transformed the hole into a slot so I could remove the hood with the steering wheel in place you can barely see the slot in the picture below the 704 has been sitting in that spot for around 20 years Edited December 10, 2020 by tom2p 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

ri702bill 8,352 #15 Posted December 10, 2020 The reason I asked if it has a plow bracket - since it does, you need to check two areas for damage. Plowing puts a lot of vibration and torsional twisting forces on the Unidrive and frame. Check the frame plate for cracks and tears around the four bolt holes that attach the Unidrive - it is repairable if damaged. Also check the mounting ears or tabs on the cast iron lower steering shaft mount as one or both may be broken. If it is damaged, replace it with a suitable used one (later models have the same casting but have a thin walled bronze bushing in the lower hole for the horizontal shaft).
