Rusty Tinsnips 477 #1 Posted December 8, 2020 Should I be putting in oil that is specifically made for limited slip rear ends? This is for a 1972 Raider
ebinmaine 68,343 #2 Posted December 8, 2020 No worries. Not needed. The limited slip axle that Wheelhorse uses is done with metal to metal contact with a special tension spring and not with clutches that need any kind of friction modifier. If you have a hydro you can use old school type a/dexron. NAPA part number 75 - 200. if you have a gear drive eight speed or six speed you can use whatever your least expensive 80w 90 is available. 1

squonk 41,324 #4 Posted December 8, 2020 All modern gear oils are limited slip capable right out of the bottle. Back in the 80's we used GM limited slip additive to quiet rocker arm squawk in the Iron Duke 4 banger motors.

The old Iron Duke was and still is a noisy, not to powerful and a gas hog but was a work horse.

Those things were about as unkillable as an engine could get at that time That was back when newspapers were made out of paper and they were distributed to people with paper boxes and they read the paper. Remember paper newspapers? Our carriers had Celebrities and Citations for that reason.

I rigged a back-up alarm to his left turn signal whilst he was out delivering parts. Everytime he turned left, BEEP BEEP BEEP!
tom2p 2,394 #8 Posted December 10, 2020 the Citation ... almost forgot about that one back in the Roger Smith days ... (former head of GM) ... somehow GM survived those days (although the decline was well in progress before Smith took over)

I recall Fiero fires were often the result of hot oil from a broken engine block (when a rod broke through the block) ( yep - 2.5L Iron Duke a just googled it ) Edited December 10, 2020 by tom2p
