71_Bronco 1,072 #1 Posted December 7, 2020 Picking up a used, older generator for cheap later this week, will have some questions. Is this the right place to post them? Or is there a better sub-forum? Thanks!
oldredrider 2,548 #2 Posted December 7, 2020 Try "implements and attachments". Worked for me!
ebinmaine 67,748 #3 Posted December 7, 2020 If it's a tractor implement then do as above. If it isn't related to a tractor I think you could probably do either way.

Unit is a stand-alone, like one you'd use to power a house. Wasnt sure if there was a generic "electrical" forum I missed.
stevasaurus 22,769 #5 Posted December 7, 2020 non-tractor is fine, but I would think "other brands" is better.
Achto 27,632 #6 Posted December 8, 2020 Not gonna fret about where to post this but I will chime in. Spinning copper & steel to make electricity is kinda my thing.

If it don't make juice apply 12vdc to the field to flash it. If that don't work apply 120vdc to the field, continue raising the input voltage until you see smoke. Just kidding, kinda. Don't have a lot of info on it as of right now, and haven't been able to find much based on what I do know. However, for the cost, I figured it would be worth it to pick it up and fiddle with it.
71_Bronco 1,072 #12 Posted December 10, 2020 (edited) Picked it up tonight. Haven't found much on this unit. I found one old ebay listing with some info, but not much else. From what I've gathered, its a 3,300 watt unit (3,600 surge). Powered by a 6hp Wisconsin engine, single cylinder. If the hour gauge is correct, this generator only has about 90 hours on it. Someone added some home-use plugs to it, that I will need to address. Will get some better pics later, but this should do for now. 71_Bronco 1,072 #14 Posted December 10, 2020 Oh, forgot to add the price... a whopping $50. Figured I couldn't go wrong for that kind of money.
Sparky-(Admin) 21,351 #15 Posted December 10, 2020 Is this to power your house in an outage? At 3300w/125v your getting 26.4 amps of usable power or 14.4 per leg if your drawing it at 230volts. That lower right hand outlet should be a 20amp 250volt 4 wire receptacle (L14-20). Good luck with it!

Good luck with it! Originally, I didn't have any plans for it, except to pick it up and see if I could get it running and working. The 2 plugs mounted to the plywood are not part of the factory wiring. I recently put in a 12' x 16' shed, and haven't run power to it, as most of the time I'm in the shed is during the day. I was considering putting this out in the shed to run some lights or small power tools if the need ever arose (obviously run it outside for exhaust reasons). I do have a 5,000 watt generator in my garage in case of a power outage (used it this past fall when we had that hurricane rip through, lost power for about a week). As of right now, game plan is to get it running and decide from there. But I figured for the price, gab it and see what happens.
