Bill D 1,926 #1 Posted December 7, 2020 I made this engine mount to fit an engine stand my neighbor loaned me. I have to pull the balance gears in this M16. It has a rattle that's making me nervous. I am curious how others mount their engines for repair. Thanks. Bill 6
JohnD 145 #2 Posted December 7, 2020 I've been wondering the same thing. My KT17 might be up for an overhaul next summer.
ebinmaine 67,698 #3 Posted December 7, 2020 Nice idea there. I've only had one engine apart and it's light weight. I put that on a small table for mobility.
Tractorhead 9,064 #4 Posted December 7, 2020 Like the idea, can be turned in each direction while rework. Great solution 👍
peter lena 8,647 #5 Posted December 7, 2020 BILL D , I like the idea of that , think I would add more bolt support for the weight . like 2 vertical flat drilled steel downward , bars ,one on each side to pick up the other engine bolt flange holes . first thing I thought of was a weld pipe flange , about 4 - 6" size , might even bolt rite up . I don't weld any more but was always looking for anything premade that I could adapt to a problem , pete
richmondred01 2,237 #6 Posted December 7, 2020 (edited) That looks great. Most people use the starter mount to affix the stand bracket. However, the magnums don’t give the clearance you need for the bearing plate so your setup on the PTO side is nice for Magum rebuilds. 19richie66 17,508 #7 Posted December 7, 2020 I don’t have an engine stand but did build one for a transmission/frame out of a semi brake adjuster and shaft. Rachet spins it nicely.
71_Bronco 1,072 #8 Posted December 7, 2020 I currently have a K181 on my bench. Once stripped of most of it's parts (muffler, carb, starter/generator, etc), it gets pretty light and can move around easily. However, that's where issues set in, specifically torqueing bolts (or loosening tight bots). Makes the engine want to slide across the bench. I can see how a stand may come in handy.
richmondred01 2,237 #9 Posted December 7, 2020 (edited) I only keep the engines on the stands until the pan is on. I do that because a dressed out k engine is a lot of weight for the two mounting bolts in the cast. I complete the rebuilds on the bench. RJ Hamner 1,007 #10 Posted December 10, 2020 Mine is the same as @richmondred01 the only difference is mine folds up when not in use since I have limited space. BTW: Works GREAT!
