D_Mac 8,623 #1 Posted December 4, 2020 Well I bought this over a month ago and didnt have the room for it in my garage, so after purchasing it I took it straight over to a friends house. I finally brought it home today. Couple question for you guys. First one is I put the plow on. The only places it connects to the tractor is at the rear end and where the lift lever connects to raise and lower it? Seems like I have it on there right but having never done it I want to make sure. Second question is that it is hard to put it in gear without it grinding gears. Maybe if some of you can tell me what to look for or what adjustments to make I would appreciate it. I said earlier that I like the wood grain look so @Vinylguy made me a special set to put on it. Well I didnt want to wait until spring to put them on so I took the hood off and brought it inside to warm up so I could put the decals on. I wasnt going to repaint it anyways. Im ok with the paint chips and scratches. Great job Terry thanks a lot, love them. I will put the rest of them on another day. I also changed the seat. Makes it easier to step over it to sit down. Last photo is when I got it. Love to hear any feedback, tips or suggestions. 3 7 1

Achto 27,624 #3 Posted December 4, 2020 If your tranny is hard to shift, this means that your belt is not sopping when you step on the clutch/brake. Belt could be slightly too small, lower tang on the belt guard my be too far away from the belt. Some thing is keeping the belt from stopping with the clutch depressed. 2
D_Mac 8,623 #4 Posted December 4, 2020 I had to go out and put the hood back on to see what it looked like. Even has my name on it ! 3 7
rjg854 11,389 #5 Posted December 4, 2020 (edited) Take your belt guard off and take some pictures of what the belt looks like on the pulleys engaged and disengaged. A picture of the inside of the guard might help also. Can you also let us know what belt size you have as previously mentioned Edited December 4, 2020 by rjg854 Add 1

953 nut 55,372 #7 Posted December 5, 2020 Your belt needs to be captured when there is some slack in it to prevent gear grinding. There should be a couple of devices as shown below. 2
squonk 41,169 #8 Posted December 5, 2020 I don't believe the 857 has the rod thingy's. Just a tang on the front of the belt guard. I'd check HHHOOOWWWAAARRRDDD!!! but he's buried in the shed for winter and it's dark and spooky in there this time of year!
71_Bronco 1,072 #9 Posted December 7, 2020 While checking out the belt for the drive, I'd also give the brake a once-over as well. make sure that is adjusted correctly and had some meat left on the brake band. Dont think that will affect the gears grinding, but would be good to check anyways.
D_Mac 8,623 #10 Posted December 7, 2020 Just wanted to mention that the clutch / brake pedal has a very small amount of travel in it. It dosnt move much when you step on it. I still need to look at it better but I found it odd that it dosnt move much.

Is it possible that the brake is adjusted too tight, so the pedal doesn't travel far enough to fully release the clutch? 1

Here is some info on adjusting the clutch/brake. @D_Mac solved his own problem.
D_Mac 8,623 #13 Posted December 8, 2020 Well thanks guys that was the issue. I adjusted the brake and now I can shift with out grinding the gears. I put on the wheel weights. Was kinda a pain because the chains would not fit around the weights so I had to add 2 more links to the chains to get everything on. I installed the cigarette lighter. I didnt have a hole saw big enough to go through the dash. The cigarette lighter I got is much larger diameter. I just installed it over the top of where someone had installed that solenoid. So now it has a flashing yellow light as well. This little tractor runs great and thanks to @Vinylguy really looks fantastic. Wish it was warmer out I would go through it and give it a deep cleaning and some paint touch up. Going to do some plowing with it this winter unless I get another offer I cant refuse. 2
D_Mac 8,623 #14 Posted December 8, 2020 Just another question. I would like to be able to tow a small dump cart with this tractor. Can someone show me what parts I would need to be able to do that?
rjg854 11,389 #15 Posted December 9, 2020 There's usually a steel bar that fits inside the slot hitch so you can hook a trailer to that.
