ebinmaine 67,703 #1 Posted December 4, 2020 I know the length is going to vary based on what weights you're using but are they all 1/2" carriage bolts? I need to pick some up on the way home...
rmaynard 15,519 #2 Posted December 4, 2020 The square hole in the rim is the correct size for the shoulder of a 1/2" carriage bolt. 3
lynnmor 7,315 #3 Posted December 4, 2020 If you don't care about having the standard carriage bolt head, just buy 1/2-13 all thread and cut to length. You will need 3 hex nuts, 2 lock washers and 1 to 3 flat washers for each bolt.

On the plus side you'd be a nice silver shade like the character Colossus.... 1 1

I "cap" the end of the bolt with a second nyloc nut set right at the end of the bolt. I have used closed end nuts but found they would break through the cap and I wouldn't notice until I ripped my pants.... Or leg.
JohnD 145 #11 Posted December 6, 2020 My C-175 has 9" long bolts and they end flush with the nuts at the outer edge of the weight. Perfect!

I think it must depend entirely on the exact weights used. The ones I found on the side of the road took 7" long 1/2" bolts but they are not as thick as the ones in JohnD's photo. Mine snug into the wheel much farther, I guess 2" less 'stick out'!
