Steering wheel cap alternative

I found this at the hardware store that starts with men****

$2.39   Fits perfect but has a rough finish so a decal wont stick. Maybe it could be sanded.

The size says 1 1/2" but fits perfect in my 2" steering wheel. The 2" size cap actually measured 2 1/2". I took a tape measure back to the store for this one.

If it keeps the water out from brown welding the wheel to the shaft we're all happy!

      Sanding with progressively finer paper down to 600 and then a bit of rubbing compound and it would be as smooth as a baby's cheek!

I wasn't looking for this when at the store, I was looking for a bushing and came across this. My cap was missing when I got the tractor so I was pretty happy with the perfect fit.

rusty, similar thinking , hardware store , what can I find and adapt to a problem ?, often find a perfect fit with some thing that was never intended to do what I want , but does the job, dr frankenhorse , pete

Thats good to know, I know I had a hard time and got the run around trying to track one down for mine, people think they are worth way more than what they are.  They make a generic round cap very similar advertised for steering wheels for around 8 bucks.  Probably made at the same factory!!
