Guest 88vic #26 Posted December 3, 2020 Hood doesn't hinge, it is a bolt on hood only.
WHNJ701 4,165 #27 Posted December 3, 2020 (edited) you don't have the original front rims, or rears Edited December 3, 2020 by jabelman
WHNJ701 4,165 #28 Posted December 3, 2020 Hinge is a rare option! By some previous owner
Greentored 3,216 #29 Posted December 4, 2020 @jabelman this is the kind of info I’m looking for, thanks! The rear rims are two different widths, the front rims I had no idea they weren’t original. Are the correct fronts and rears gonna be hard to find? Truthfully I don’t care to make this correct down to every ‘701 only’ nut n bolt, but between the tires being junk and mismatched rear wheels, I’d like to at LEAST have the correct offsets and widths if I’m going to go through the trouble to paint them and mount new rubber. Got a snapshot of how the hood attaches up front?

Got a snapshot of how the hood attaches up front? Sounds like a good reason to take mine out today! The rears are just generic 6-12 with the 5 lug pattern, yes the the hubs are 3. The fronts should be easy enough to find too

Greentored 3,216 #33 Posted December 5, 2020 On the front rims- I take it what I’m looking for would be the ‘hub’ being more flush with the rim on the inside instead of an inch of spacers, and no holes in the rim itself, correct? Hate to say this but I have a MINT Ohio Steel wagon with a ‘built by Ohio Steel for Wheel Horse’ tag on it. The rims are flush at the hub area and no holes. They’d have to be a near perfect match for the 701 or I’d never do it....

Was that bushing put in by you or a PO? Those holes in the drag link I drill to 5/8 and bronze bush back to 1/2" The zerk bolts are known to wear and wallow too. I braze them up then Dremel grind back down to fit goodntite. Redrill the grease hole. I don't wanna hear how it cuts into yer Miller time! 1
Greentored 3,216 #40 Posted December 9, 2020 @WHX24 that’s hilarious, and sometimes true! Nice job on the zerk bolts! Mine were only worn about .030, I chucked them in the lathe and cut them back to round and made a bushing to fit, about .470. Had to sacrifice some of the thread ‘depth’ to cut to an even OD, but still left plenty to tighten them up and jam nut em. The passages actually had grease in them and were clear!

It's one of those machines folks see getting used a few times a year and have a hard time justifying having one. Believe me, the real numbers are closer to 'almost daily.' A mill might be even 'worse.' Throw one of those in there too and it would be very easy to lock one's self in that area with a pile of scrap metal and get lost for days on end...... If I win the powerball, EVERYONES getting a lathe and a mill

Greentored 3,216 #49 Posted December 10, 2020 (edited) Robbed some wheels n tires off a bombed out 655 I'm working on, and another pair of fronts from the parts stash. These rears would be correct I believe? Neither style of front wheel is 100% correct, but would the factory wheels have the two holes or not? Might as well get as close to original as I can.... That right there is what I call a home machining center. I'd gladly build on for room for that! Firestone rears are correct Green. Those are what I plan to use on my 701 & got a nice set from @pullstart Not positive about the fronts but thinking the the 2 hole fronts are correct. I'll get you a pic of the round seat I have if your serious about the trade. Correction here Green my pic post 7 would be correct fronts. Doesn't look like they have the weight holes BUT in '61 they might have just used whatever rims were floating around near the assembly line in the day. They could have used leftover rims from a Suburban or possibly even an RJ. Edited December 10, 2020 by WHX24
