Kohler Exhaust Stud & Throttle Shaft Info

Recommended Posts

I was looking for some carb information and came across these.

Exhaust Stud Installation

Kohler Exhaust Stud installation

Kohler engines have an 'interference thread"
on one side of the exhaust stud. This larger thread
is designed to be inserted into the head and stay
in place allowing for easy assembly and removal
of the exhaust system. A "Dot" is used on one end
of the stud to indicate the small thread side. When
installed into the cylinder head the "Dot" should be visible.

Is that something McMaster Carr, K. L. Jack, Bolt Depot would have?

I understand that all too well.

At least you know you have spares of hidden parts for future use.

You've got a excuse to get another tractor now.  Wouldn't want those extra parts to go to waste...

EB I'm guessing, but I suspect this is a special Kohler item. I previously had taken an exhaust stud I have to Ace and the studs in their Hillman drawers did not match the one side with the Kohle " larger interferance thread"

It would be easy to make a thread slightly oversize using a split die.

I made my own brass nuts for the new exhaust flange on my kohler.

Im having fun with mine splitting the flywheel key down the middle and screwing the timing up.

Looks like it may be a while before I get her running again.
