You can work the 64 and earlier ones also but like my wife says their just to cute . Try pulling a bottom plow with an RJ ! I had to try to see what a guy in 1959 would experience. It did a good enough job but the front definitely needs a weight.

Measures around 6 x 6 x 6 give or take. Haven't weighed it yet but should be 50+ lbs. Figured I'd use it as a counterbalance on one of Trina's workers. I got a pump jack weight that is im guessing 80lbs? 100? I will use it for something eventually.

Makes sense to buy something that will last for a long time for a lot less than what the big box stores are selling for 1,500 to 1800.

Pullstart 62,922 #33 Posted November 29, 2020 I’m torn in this matter, so after giving the subject much thought I’ve decided the only one of mine that I work is the one my butt is sitting on. Some just work a bit harder than others.

cschannuth 3,816 #36 Posted November 29, 2020 All of mine are workers including my Dad’s 1978 C-161. It mowed on steep hills and pushed snow for over 40 years with nothing more than oil changes and a new battery now and then. It’s still original except I freshened up the tires, paint and decals a few years ago after my dad passed. Now I use it to push snow, plow gardens, and grade my gravel road. My dad was super careful with his stuff and he passed that trait on to me. He worked all his equipment and it all still looked nearly new even after decades of use. Here’s how it looked after I dug it out of his basement, after I cleaned it up a bit, and how it looks today. 4

c-series don 8,730 #38 Posted November 30, 2020 I have to say that might be the nicest example of a C-161 twin automatic out there. Truly a beautiful machine. I have one that I inherited from my step grandpa. It’s resting comfortably in my basement after countless hours of service. 3

There’s one on here in the classifieds but it’s a bit of a haul, pricey for its condition, and comes with several non compatible implements that must be bought with the tractor.

953 nut 55,329 #41 Posted November 30, 2020 Work or show, Can't it do both? The hardest working in my herd is the 310-8. It has never been to a show but it is probably the best looking tractor I have. At the end of mowing season it gets a complete detailing and wax job prior to being covered up with a blankie for the winter. The 310 is nearly 30 years old but looks like new because the previous owner and I have taken care of it. The day I brought it home my wife thought I had bought a new . The most likely candidate for a trip to a show would be one of my 953s though they are far from being Trailer Queens. I just enjoy driving them and they seem to be more interesting to others at the show. 3

That was the year that Kohler was having quality problems with their twins so Wheel Horse had to look elsewhere. It’s been a great engine. Amazing thing is my mom and dad lived in a very hilly location so I’m shocked that it’s never had any engine problems since it uses splash lubrications. To be honest I was a full-fledged Briggs guy before I got Wheelhorses and became more familiar with the Kohler line and it's overall quality and longevity. I'm not at all surprised that it does well on Hill country. They don't have a reputation of going bad around New England in the couple places I've lived.

Then @Achto got me into shows so the tractor went too.... and got rained on and muddy and field plowed and hauled tubs and chain piled and whatever else it was needed for. Dan's restoes and refreshes are far better than mine and he sticks them in the dirt regular but next time I see them they are just as clean as the day he restoed them. So don't ride them hard and put them away wet I guess is what I'm sayin.

I work all my tractors, restored or not. They all get a bath before bed time though. I will admit that I'm a little more careful with my restored ones and try to only touch or handle the items that are made out of plastic, rubber or vinyl. In other words - Keep your paws off of the painted surfaces. 2
