tallen4392 69 #1 Posted November 27, 2020 Do most of you use regular tires on the front of your machine for pushing snow if so how do they work

Do you mean standard turf tires? If so yes, some have used walk behind snow blower tires, some use "tri ribs" and some like to use a length of "roller" drive around the center of the tread to help with steering and I have moved up to AG bar lug on all 4 corners.
8ntruck 6,991 #3 Posted November 28, 2020 Many add wheel weights to the front wheels and add fluid to the front tires to help steering - epically when using a plow.
wallfish 16,986 #4 Posted November 28, 2020 #40 roller chain around the front tires works great. All of my snow machines will always have this done 4
JCM 9,130 #5 Posted November 28, 2020 (edited) I am intrigued @wallfish . So John what is the chain mounting procedure. Do you deflate the tire and then take a tape measure for the circumference and then pick up some #40 at tractor supply with a master link or leave 12 psi in it and then measure it ? Thanks. Oh and by the way you left both of your white chairs here at the M&G, I will take good care of them so you will stop by at September's Meet to pick them up, I hope ? wallfish 16,986 #6 Posted November 28, 2020 (edited) I never measured, just pulled the chain around the tire and marked it, but get them on tight with the tire deflated. Then pressure them up. They need to be very tight or they will walk off the tire from the side load. You can see the bulge on each side of the chain. Makes a huge difference in steering and especially plowing with the blade angled Yeah, forgot the chairs so I have a good excuse to return. Looking forward to it already Edited November 28, 2020 by wallfish
SylvanLakeWH 25,495 #7 Posted November 28, 2020 Standard turfs all around. No weights no chains. Do 3 flat driveways and no issues with usual Michigan slop...
BOB ELLISON 2,981 #8 Posted November 28, 2020 I use regular turf tires on the front of my c160 with filled rears and chains on the backs . It does slide a little on turns with heavy or wet snow .
DennisThornton 4,769 #9 Posted November 28, 2020 I'm definitely going to try to roller chain on the fronts!

Might fill the fronts as well.

I plow in 2 high (1 high for cleanup / near cars etc...). Here’s my set up...

Well, I understand that it does snow in Michigan and indeed it looks like snow but I have no idea how you manage with those tires and no chains! 2

Navig8r 132 #14 Posted February 4, 2021 I definitely gotta do the chain on the fronts... Usually do ok, but I'm tired of only sometimes being able to steer!

Seems roller chain is better for the fronts on rear wheel drives. I'm putting chains on the fronts of my 4wd but roller chain on my WHs.
littleredrider 409 #16 Posted February 4, 2021 I need to put chains on the tri ribs on mine. Absolutely horrible trying to steer, with blade or snow blower lifted, so all the weight is on the tires. I have the 5 rib vredesteins on the other 520, but don’t use that one so not sure how they do. But both front/reads on each tractor are loaded. Not sure if it helps, when go lil too far off driveway n gets stuck, I can push it pretty easily. I’m not even 200lbs lol. Why I need a bigger heavier 4wd!!!! Rusty Tinsnips 477 #17 Posted February 4, 2021 (edited) I was disappointed in these. They slide allot. ( ice under the snowfall) The ag tires on the front of the other I have doesn't seem to slip as much. Edited February 4, 2021 by Rusty Tinsnips

(the blade is not correct model and is modified to fit my C 105. Works perfectly...) I have a plow pattern for each of the 3 driveways I plow, so I just keep it where it is and don’t need to get off to change blade direction...

Wonder if swapping sides ultimately reversing them would help?

I think allot of the problem was the layer of ice under the snow. Ice is gone now, will see tomorrow morning how it does, 2-3 inches of new snow tonight.
