520 Snow Blade Question

So today I sold a blade that I have had (Model 42BC01) and as we were loading it into Carls trailer, I asked what he was putting it on. He said a 520H and he thought that it was a 96. I told him I was pretty sure that he needed an extension for this blade to work and gave him the opportunity to back out of the deal. He had driven an hour and half and said he would take the blade and see about the extension. So the question...will the 42BC01 work with an extension and where could he pick one up at?

The 42BC01 will fit a short or long frame tractor and will work on the '88 and '89 520s.   He will need an extension for his '96 520.      He could place a wanted ad here, on CL, or Marketplace for the extension.

With the dual mounting holes all ready in this frame, it would not be difficult to make an extension by bolting on two pieces of angle iron.     I assume he has the axle bracket.

Yes, I included the mounting bracket. Yea, an extension should be something he can fabricate if he can't find one.

The clean red parts are the extension kit it is actually 3 parts as can be seen above for sale with the angle lever as well, also a 42" wide plow won't cover the front tires of the swept forward axle when angled left/right ask me how I know, bought the same plow for my bought new Anniversary 520H and had to make moldboard extensions and a homemade extension kit (pic #3 it went between the angle quadrant and moldboard) that I ran for many years until getting the correct kit and 54" then 56" moldboard.

He will not only need the extension, but will also have to modify the lever for the plow angle indexing (as in the picture above).  That's exactly what I'm confronted with right now.   I'm going to have to do some welding on the lever if I don't want to get off the tractor every time I want to change the plow angle.

See pic #4 of my post (hence 3pc extension kit) but I believe Lowell will sell you just the angle lever if that's all you need give him a shout... I made mine but out if 1/4" thick instead of 5/16".

More of a project than I would have thought. He may want to buy another tractor for what he will have in converting this plow to work on his 520.

Honestly my "hillbilly" extension kit pic #3 of post #5 did very well for many years, a couple pieces of angle iron some flat stock 4 holes drilled to extend the mold board 3" out from the plowed frame angle quadrant I reused the long pin in the blade and some bolts in the quadrant then adjust the trip springs... The 42" wide moldboard when angled is basically even with the outter edge of the tires if I remember correctly that's why the 48" is better for this application. Unfortunately I don't have pictures from 1998 when I first did this.
