TV and Commercials

Recommended Posts

JoeM

The other night I flipped on the Discovery Channel and a commercial came on and it was a commercial in a commercial! You know like picture in a picture!

I am so fed up with TV, seems like less show to watch and more advertising.

And now commercial in a commercial???

If it wasn't for the wife and grand kids I would cut the cable. I find my self spending more and more time away from that time waster!:ranting:

I spend my viewing time with You-tube feeds.  If I see Joe Namath  say  "it's free" one more time I'm gonna hurl! Mute button helps too!

Haven't had cable tv for few years...

Digital antennae in the attic picks up about 25 - 30 channels, which we don't watch anyways...

Have not "watched TV" in years... tuned in election night for about 10 minutes... that was enough. :(

The "cable bill" was my #1 complaint EVERY MONTH. When we relocated we vowed never to do that again. We get the digital antenna channels (for free - who would pay for that anyway) which are as you say fill with endless commercials, so my WIFE only watches them for news ( I go online and see what I need to see without opinion/spin) or weather. We use Amazon Prime and YouTube for the bulk of TV and you can at least control the commercials a bit more. Regular TV sucks . . .:bitch:

No cable. No antenna. No paid subscription.

Trina and I watch a movie maybe every month or two. (Can you imagine HER sitting that long???)

We do use youtube.

Shut the damn thing off and enjoy life. Quietly.

It's called a DVR, record whatever it is you want to watch when it's on, then view it later being able to skip over the commercials.  You'd be surprised, just how much time those commercials take up.  An hour show can usually been watched in about 40 minutes.

Some times I enjoy the commercials better than the TV shows. Some of the Geico & All State ones are hilarious. :D I even record the Super Bowl just to watch the commercials, could care less about the game.:)

  :confusion-confused:Maybe I'm not wrapped right.

I've read on more than one occasion that advertisers are trying to find ways to get creative because people are not paying anywhere near as much attention to the commercials as they used to.

If you have two or three commercials on the screen at the same time some folks are still going to walk away but others are going to focus in on the one that is the least irritating or most interesting to them...

And then of course you've got the ones on YouTube that are focused on nut cases like me that don't even watch television but are only 12 to 15 seconds long.

Those are even more irritating and I will often just back right out of the video.

That's what I used to do, but it came with my $179 monthly cable bill.

paying for cable

There are quite a good many places up here in the mountains where there is no free television available because the signal just simply does not reach.

If you don’t like commercials, watch an old “Hazel” show on one of those retro channels. After listening to hear yammer non stop, you’ll be glad for a preparation H ad!

Oh yeah. I know. But then you've got a few areas where High-Speed Internet is just NOT available yet or people like Trina's mom that have no desire to be on any portion of the internet.

She has the least expensive cable available and it's still some over $50 per month.
