Another Surprise for Mrs. P - Westinghouse Coke Machine

My wife has wanted a coke machine for quite a long time.  Her grandfather had one for years and when times got tough, he sold it before she could speak up.  I found this recently at a local auction and just today received the WEX key to open it up. 
 

Anyone ever worked on these things?  @squonk?

 

I blew out all the mouse nest, plugged it in after a brief wires inspection and it fired up.  Well, no fire.  That’s good with electric stuff!  It started working!  Heat is dumping out of the condenser and the inside is chilling!

 

I need to work on getting the front lit up, then the change machine working (or bypass it), then work on the delivery of a soda bottle!

Only worked on the reefer part. I think mostly switches and solenoids in there. Gravity does the rest. I like watching the new machines that select the bottle and carry it to the chute.

I found this link, somewhere between the 60’s and 70’s.  Now to figure out when pop was just 15 cents!

I am hoping to have this ready for a Christmas present.  I think I failed to mention that.  It’s exciting to find things that she’ll appreciate, without going to the store looking for useless or thoughtless things.

I remember when pop was $0.10 , maybe it was only $0.05 so long ago . That would be in the mid 50's.

Momma’s going to be having a surgery on Wednesday, recovery being 4-6 weeks expected.  We are going to Mexico for a family vacation with the in-laws and I’ll officiate my sister inlaw’s wedding while we’re there.  My guess is that Mrs. P won’t be visiting the shop a ton in the next month.  
 

I cleaned this up a bit and inspected stuff.  The power cord is shot, the sheathing just crumbles when you stare long enough.

That transformer thingy looks to be a potential or compressor start relay. 

You should be able to find lots of info out ther on these machines. Lurk on the Coke collectors forums. Search enough you might be able to find a service manual.

Lighting is probably just some bad bulbs or ballasts. 

I have no interest in an appliance that requires an addition built on to keep it but still cool to work on!

All is well.  I’ll get the power cord, then go from there.  I might toss some bottles in it, being empty it might not accept coin as a fail safe.

I’m working on this thing still.  I have made it accept coins, on a regular basis... but it doesn’t vend on a regular basis.  I’ve succeeded 1 time to vend by inserting coins, 2 times flipping levers and cheating.  The funny thing, there is no pattern to duplicate success!

 

I’ve removed quite a few dead stink bugs and one or two live ones.

I like it, but how will glass bottles fare when its fitted to a Wheelhorse?  Some serious suspension work required.

I got the light working this morning!  Woo hoo!  I have no way to get it inside so I writ this little rhyme.  I hope she loves it!
