It's got the Kt17 series 2 I think.  There is no oil filter on it!

My question is, what is the rod that comes from the motor called that moves the points open / closed?  I'm wondering if there is a seal around it that is prone to leaking? How hard is it to get at? I never noticed before, but there could be what looks like a little oil under the cap of the points.

I'm thinking it's called a points push rod.No seal as far as I know.But......I do think the screw holes on the cover will leak oil if the cover screws are not tight.

The points are located on the top of your engine and there isn't any pressurized oil up there so it shouldn't be a problem.

Not all Series II engines have an oil filter.  The one in my C175 did not.  If you desire to put an oil filter on it, make sure there is a removable block off plate near the rear cylinder, by the PTO side.  I bought one from a newer M18 and bolted it right to my Series II and installed an oil filter for a 2015 Ford Focus on it.

Thanks... Would anyone know what gauge wire goes to the points? Every time I put the cover on, it won't run.  There is a little cut in the wire and is shorting out.

CEE, I would guess in the 14-16 gage , the more important thing is to change the routing of the wire problem . you can also use a small " wire wrap " on ignition wiring to insure its flow , pete

It’s hard to tell in the picture but it looks like that might be a series one.
