Dave murrant 1 #1 Posted November 19, 2020 Hi , I want to restore the colour to the rear fender plastic seat base on my tractor as it has gone a grey colour . These are very hard to find here in england and I have thought about painting it but don't want to spoil what I've got . Any thoughts or recommendations very welcome . SylvanLakeWH 26,153 #2 Posted November 20, 2020 You can try Penetrol. It is a paint additive but I have used it for years to get the “chalky” look out of the paint on older fiberglass boats... just rub it on with a cloth and wipe it off... works quite well... But, most folks just replace the plastic seat pan with a metal one though... Any pics of your tractor? Love the Black Hoods!!! 2
953 nut 56,171 #3 Posted November 20, 2020 I would suggest trying some rubbing compound to revive the old finish.
Zeek 2,286 #4 Posted November 20, 2020 (edited) I have had good success with this compound depending on how bad it is. If it's really bad, you are better off wet sanding with 320 grit and spray painting it with a color like Rustoleum Regal Red if it is available where you are. They have a version you can spray on plastic. Wipe it with Tolulene (Xylene) if available before painting so you do not get fish eyes (Google it) in the paint. Even a tiny bit of wax at some point in it's life will cause fish eye once you sand. Edited November 20, 2020 by Zeek
Pullstart 63,203 #5 Posted November 22, 2020 Most plastic pans I see are cracked and brittle, which end up being replaced by a metal pan. Please let us know how it comes out, maybe before and after pictures?
Dave murrant 1 #6 Posted November 22, 2020 Thanks for the help guys . Plastic is pretty good condition other than being very weathered . It has turned almost grey in places . I am going to rub it down and spray it now . I will post pictures before and after I have done it .
