Restoring 48 inch deck - Tracking my progress so far, needed advice + PICTURES

yes those 6203 ( 3/4" ) 2rsc3 bearings are the same . ideal size on  decks / pto drive , its the grease that does not stand up to hi temp , getting noisy too soon , pete

I use Timken and SKF sealed bearings. I would not get to excited about re-greasing those brands if installed new. Maybe a knock off bearing would have substandard grease. I paid around $5 a piece for the two brands on the bay.

i ended up with a $20 pack of ebay china bearings, i will repack and see how they hold up.  i couldnt find the Timkens for less than $10 each

Yeah I must have lucked out on those Timken last year. I did get the 10 pack SKF for 45$ this spring.

charbs, add this pulley removal to your deck , , scroll down site , near end , just  something I came up with , that made sense to me , using mechanical advantage , makes  the pulleys pop off , with out damage , pete

Thanks peter.  my pulleys came right off without any issues at all but good info there.  I am going to put anti seize on them when i reinstall

charbs , thanks for the feedback, when your deck is finished , this is what I do to stop the rusty grunge , LUBRICATION WILL SAVE YOUR DECK , PETE

You keep your deck stripped down to bare metal? or is that the stuff youre spraying on it making it look like that?

Update:

 

All deck parts except for the actual deck is primed.  There are two small spots i want to try to weld.

well I took the spindle apart and I have 2 different types.  One looks to be original and the other 2 look to be replacements.

 

 

one has a larger diameter than the other two. I had ordered 6 bearings but the Bearings I ordered only fit the larger shaft. (6203 3/4 2RS/C3)

 

Soo- i ordered up some metric bearings.

 

The paint is coming along nicely

 

also got the decal kit in as well. 

 

 

Still searching for spindle shafts and housings...Anyone got anything?
