HY3 Pump

I am picking up a HY3 Hydraulic pump for my 67 607 this weekend and have little knowledge about them. Can you guys tell me about em? How rare are they?

All I know about them is @wheelhorseman openly admits he hoards them and is my go to source about them! He will know the diffs between an HY2,3 etc. 

 

@Lane Ranger knows a thing or two as well.

The difference between the H-2 and H-3 is the fill plug -  as for how rare are they? Not  very rare at my house🤷‍♂️

 Like Lowell says there are differences.  Somewhere on Red Square there are Fact Sheets or Operation Manuals  for the Hy-2 and HY -3 Hein Werner hydraulic pumps, cylinders and related parts needed to mount the units on various model Wheel Horse tractors.

 

Either HY 2 or 3 pump could be used to build a unit for an applicable Wheel Horse model.  The one major difference to the pump is the internal piston!  You need to longer piston to use the pump on a round hood tractor.  I have a pic of the two used.  The shorter one was used on 953/1054 pumps.  It had two different types of springs .  Lowell sells both types.  I call one the Rabbit ears one and the other type the butterfly type.

 

the shorter piston as the flat handle for up and down lift screwed into the piston by two machine screws.

 

The longer piston goes on the 701/702/753/854 type tractors.  It has the handle screwed into the threaded hole on the extended end of the piston.  
 

Both type pistons use the same O rings and 1/2 oil seals to keep hydraulic fluid in the pumps.

 

 

The unit that works on a 753 has several other parts needed to mount and lift the mid rockshaft and rear hitch.  A good lift cylinder attached to a special snowplow hitch with a link for a lift cylinder.   Also a tower under dash plate and others.

 

These pumps can lift up to three hundred pounds or more when you have a good lift cable and non leaking pump and cylinder units. 
 

They are great for front snowblowers and snowplows.  They also help with rear garden plows, cultivator s etc.

Yes correct Lane and the 953 pumps have the rabbit ear or double curl spring in them with a lift cylinder that comes apart like H-2 and H-3 cylinders. The 1054 pumps had the butterfly spring in them and they also have a needle bearing on the pulley shaft and they have an all welded cylinder like the tractors with the HY-6 hydraulic systems.

The big difference in the HY-2 and HY-3 is the main bell crank or rock shaft 1961/62 for the HY-2 and 1963/64 for the HY-3

Thank you @wheelhorseman and @Lane Ranger for all of the good information! He is pretty firm on 175 for it and it's complete so will keep you guys updated, anything on the pump I should keep an eye out for that could be a red flag?

That’s a steal IMO just make sure that there’s not to much side to side play.

Yes like Lowell says the main shaft and pulley out of the pump should be pretty tight.    The internal parts can wear and make the shaft wobble and leak even with good oil seals in place.
