Mark Bartlett 83 #1 Posted November 12, 2020 The metal is pretty good but the pulleys are wasted away, bearing show slack....have to make another belt tensioner bracket .
peter lena 8,583 #2 Posted November 12, 2020 mark , if you do nothing else , spray down that deck with penetrating oil , to stop rust and feed the metal, then plan your restoration. use lucas red and tacky grease in your bearings , I hand pack them , the 6203 bearings come with a generic grease , lo temp , that will fail. the hi temp grease will not fail . i will send you the pictures for pulley removal , pete

Mark Bartlett 83 #4 Posted November 12, 2020 Yelp, the prying the off worked well.....with a little heat. Regarding rust and the paint plans: I use a product call "OSPHO" . I grew up on the Gulf of Mexico coast so dealing with rust is always a problem. After degreasing and chipping off the heavy rust pits all you have to do is clean off loose particles, apply the OSPHO, come back the next day and paint. The product serves as a primer. I've painted draglines(cranes with a cable controlled bucket), bulldozers, trucks using this method with oil based enamel paints. OSPHO is an acid so application and handling requires safety stuff. I use a spray bottle for small parts like this deck. Great product.
