echris 1,425 #1 Posted November 12, 2020 (edited) I've been looking for a deck for my 310. I can restore my 42SD, but the sheet metal is a bit rough. Last night at around 9:30, I opened the FaceBook marketplace and searched Wheel Horse like I have for months. This came up: WHOA, HOLD UP KIDS! WHAT HAVE WE HERE? How much does he want? Probably $2,500 and my firstborn.... I immediately replied, "I'll take it." He replied in a short while and by 10PM we agreed to meet the next morning, I ended up driving almost 2 hours this morning to get it, met the seller at 9:45AM, and took out my cash and gave it to him. I already knew I HAD to take it. A few more pics when I got it home: A quick hosing off and soft bristle brush. A quick scrape of the underside with a 1" putty knife: Then a washout, in the rain. Not bad, not bad at all. A few minor issues: One gauge wheel is shot and is wearing through the bracket. Not a big deal. New wheels/axles and worst case, weld up the groove and grind it flat. Also, it looks like there is a small crack in the deck below the left rear Attach-Matic bracket. You can see a slight depression in the steel where it looks like the bracket took a pretty good hit from the top. If so, I'm going to weld that up too. So two minor issues. Nothing else. Almost new mule drive included. New belts. All spindles mint. All pulley's/hardware/springs...almost 0 rust. So for the most part, I got a brand new 42" RD. She's gonna get pampered. Don't ask how much I paid. I feel guilty. Edited November 12, 2020 by echris 4

echris 1,425 #3 Posted November 12, 2020 Just now, midpack said: No. You don't Really, I do. I had $140 in my pocket. I should have given him $100. He only asked for $80 in his ad. $80 freaking dollars. It's easily worth $200-300, no? I asked him if he had a tractor too. He showed me his 310-8 which had a seized engine, that he planned to rebuild but ran out of time. I wish I had known ahead of time, he wants to part it out. I oogled a bit and asked how much for the gas cap. My gauge is shot, this was perfect, He threw it in with the deal. That's when I should have given him another $20. If it wasn't 2 hours away, I'd go right back and buy more parts. 4
echris 1,425 #4 Posted November 12, 2020 (edited) Here's the actual FaceBook ad. It's kind of embarrassing. But I'm still giddy as a school kid about it. Edited November 12, 2020 by echris 1

echris 1,425 #9 Posted November 12, 2020 If it sounds like I'm really bragging about this, it's probably because I am. Which is kind of mean, because... I should have given the seller more.
Bill D 1,910 #10 Posted November 12, 2020 Nice deck! You should go back and buy the tractor to use for parts for the restoration of your 310-8.
tom2p 2,394 #11 Posted November 12, 2020 (edited) nice find ! my 42" RD deck shell has a similar crack (area where it attaches to the rear part of bracket) - been there for years and has not been an issue ( can see crack in below pic ) Edited November 12, 2020 by tom2p
tom2p 2,394 #12 Posted November 12, 2020 (edited) I currently cut more with SD decks (42 and 48") - but used a RD deck exclusively for decades and still use a 312 with 42" RD deck fairly often RD deck will deliver better results when front is set slightly higher than rear - grass clippings will be better dispersed and there will be less 'clumping' RD deck can be more affected by tall grass than SD deck ; cut grass more often if possible and/or keep mower / blade height higher to eliminate or reduce 'clumping' Edited November 12, 2020 by tom2p

What did you use for the rubber flap/rock guard? I've read online that baler belting at Tractor Supply is a good cheap option.
