Broke the drive belt on my 314-8 1994 model.replaced belt and replaced it.about two weeks later the new belt came off.does this mean that the gas damper needs to be replaced?also does anyone know of a non toro part to replace it?should I replace the idler pulley also?

I've read several post where people have eliminated the clutch damper and went back to the spring on the clutch like the earlier 312-8 models have.  I have a  1985 312-8 that has the spring from original  and it works fine.

Take it off and throw it away.  I also replaced the clutch spring on my 1989 312-8 as it didn't have enough tension. You don't want to keep destroying drive belts, as they should last 25 to 30 years.

TOOLMANBILL, agree with others above on the spring issue , only thing I would add is to thoroughly lubricate your entire clutch movement points to keep things moving easily, pete
