Be cool to see, I keep the feeder and cameras going to watch what's around my land but I gave up on hunting years ago.

My doe tag is all ready filled so the girls get a pass.      I'm waiting for cooler temps to get the rut started.

Not really hunting, but while on my daily walk with the dog on the Fred Meijer Hartland Trail, we've seen one or two does almost every day this week.

The dog goes into persuit mode when he sees the deer- I think my right arm is now about an inch longer than my left.

Saw a few does during bow season that were out of range. Now muzzle loading is open and I have seen one and couldn't get a shot. I think it is to warm for a lot of movement during the day. I might hunt the trails to the water holes next week and hunt mid day to see how it goes. Also during squirrel season saw a coule every hunt now seeing 3-6 each morning and afternoon.

This morning my Nephew and his 8 yr old son hunted with me for the first time at the Family Farm. I put them in my back pasture stand. It has a fairly good record of yielding a good buck opening weekend. This 9 pt with 2 buttons came out and the 8yr old was too nervous to shoot so my Nephew shot it. He’s  harvest 2 doe elsewhere in other years, but this was his first buck. It measures 14-1/2” wide at the widest point on his main beams. Here we have a 13” minimum width (outside the ears)  Restriction.

This morning I hunted in my front pasture stand that is in a creek bottom. I had 11 doe, a spike, and a 4 pt. Plus 3 squirrels and a several red birds. A nice busy morning watching wildlife

This buck was out back of the house about 40 yards, took the picture with my phone through a window. I cropped the picture so you just see the buck. In case you wondered about it being fuzzy.

Nice Oliie... now I can go to bed tonite dreaming of creek bottoms & briars... just my cup of tea. :)

Traditional 9 Day gun hunt  starts here on the 21st of this month.

WI deer camps are well known for old fashions, fish fries, camp meat chile, cards and fellowships.

It's alot more than just the hunt ....sometimes we even remember to bring a gun or ammo.!

The memories and and tall tales of past hunts hangs in the air thicker than the wood smoke from the warm  stove fires.

Snow on the ground....hard frozen swamps ....tracking dust is what we call it....  and crisp cold air.

' Course you don't have that down ther so imagine coming in from a day out in a tree to a hot fire and a hot toddy!

Quite a  different climate I would guess.

I took this six pointer last weekend or so with a crossbow so therin is our camp meat. Kinda got all worked up about hanging him in 50 degree weather but it thankfully it cooled off.

Nothing to brag about but as we say around here can't eat them horns and boiling the tag alot longer to make it edible!

I'm not allowed to hunt here at the house, but this was what the morning activity was 1854625640_PXL_20201108_1209526322.jpg.fb50318f6db1c2b890977dc33f0fc258.jpg1983896060_PXL_20201108_1210192092.jpg.1dd950f9bda38f18c0a0338e3fbb074b.jpg1003127315_PXL_20201108_1225024273.jpg.145437cc5fced4d24fb1062dd954fcd6.jpg1973325957_PXL_20201108_1210129272.jpg.7dd673444b33b836df760b9d3f80c1d8.jpg1821889400_PXL_20201108_1209543862.jpg.93882194d27f94d49b1091447c8aa182.jpg

Filled one of my Michigan tags this week. Field dressed weight 186 lbs, he took a pretty good chunk of my freezer space.

This was in my son’s backyard and he lives in town. Now he wants to borrow his brother’s cross bow for some reason...0D5C62B6-8485-40B7-8226-B3AB98C019BA.jpeg.d9cdf1eb76d039bc764a49d8969e67b0.jpeg

Well, it’s a small town and there are several vineyards and a winery nearby for tasty treats, haha.

In my tree at 6AM   Saw one deer at 6:30 but it was too foggy to ID.        Then at 7 my neighbor started trimming brush and grinding with a wood chipper about a 100 yds from me.

I checked the camera before I left at 8:30  and the buck was there at 3:27 AM this morning.    Guess I gotta get up earlier.

In the tree from 6-11AM.  No deer, but what a nice day watching the chickadees, blue birds, woodpeckers, and grey squirrels.

Agreed, Ed. Nothing better than sitting in a tree with the sun shining on you, enjoying all that nature has to offer, on a gorgeous fall day, not a care in the world. Just time to yourself, and the thrill of the hunt. A chance to clear your head and count your blessings. Now that is truly something to look forward to every time you get to do it. Life doesn't get much better than that.

Tomorrow is gun opener in Michigan.  I never even practiced with my bow this year.  :(  I don’t know why, but they legalized a 450 Bushmaster for shotgun zones so I picked one up this week.  3 shots to say it’s sighted in, I’m ready for the morning!  Unfortunately it was 26 degrees this morning and zero wind, tomorrow is supposed to be 40’s and 50’s, 20-30 mph wind and rain most the day.  I have a feeling this year’s opener might not be as plentiful as the last 2.  I’ve harvested 3 bucks opening day in the last 2 years, a 7, 8 and 5 points.  There’s a big ole 8 point out there that I’m hoping is love struck enough to chase a doe in front of me in the morning!

A rainy windy opener doesn't look good to me either Kevin! I hunt near Tekonsha and each year there are less and less hunters. Not enough hunters out there to get the deer moving around. With a wind advisory from 1 am to 7 pm Sunday, I see it as being a long day in the blind. I have one deer in the freezer so I may just move my gun opener back 24 hours. Besides, I really enjoy hunting the December muzzleloader season where we generally have snow cover to hunt. In Calhoun Co, my tag this year is good for buck or doe.

Clear sky and a crisp 38F this morning.     In the tree from 5:30 -11.  Had a small 6 point walk by at 40 yds.      One more week of bow season.
