Sellers beware on ebay

Recommended Posts

After selling and buying for 20 years this is the final straw.

I sell a fair amount of tractor parts and my other hobby model airplane stuff.

As a private seller I don't take returns unless it's an extreme circumstances or my mistake.

Recently I had a buyer file a nonsense claim against me stating the description was wrong (which nothing was wrong with the item or description).  As part of ebay's buyers 100% guarantee, ebay went and froze money in my PayPal account while the claim was investigated, to which they wouldn't even listen to my side.  So now I have to pay to get  the item shipped back if I want my item back. (I have to pay the shipping both ways).  Ebay will automatically refund the buyer out my PayPal account.  Apparently eBay has permissions to go into your account.

What a headache!

The sad part is I don't make money doing this, it's more of passing parts and pieces to other people that need it.  Which unfortunately ebay's agenda now is geared toward high volume junk sellers from across the pacific and could care less about the small private accounts.

So needless to say I have decided after 20 years I will be closing my ebay account.  A friend of mine did the same and told me it is so much easier just getting rid at the dump rather than being bothered selling on ebay, craigslist, facebook people anymore so difficult to deal with.

That's my rant for today.  It's Friday , almost beer time!

Right there with ya!! I let my eBay account go and ended my PayPal account quite a few years ago. I don’t even look at eBay anymore.

My reasons were a bit different than yours. I was watching a couple people I know bid on each other’s stuff to push up the price. They were both pretty proud of how they had “beat” ebays system and never had to pay for adding a reserve to their auctions and would always get top dollar. They both sold WH stuff so hopefully none of you got scammed.
Dirty auctions is what I called it.

I don't sell on eBay and as most of you know I'm not on Facebook or Twitter.

I reached a point three or four years ago where I've stopped selling almost anything except here on Redsquare because I just don't feel like dealing with the headaches on CL.

If I have something that somebody wants that's a friend of mine I'll likely give it to them or occasionally I'll bring things to the freecycle area of the transfer station.

I just recently began buying on eBay again and haven’t had any bad experience, but they were tires from a store...

Buying has never been an issue.

The selling end has gotten ridiculous.  I had some ask for a tracking number 15 minutes after they purchase something.  Countless emails after shipping 2 days later asking where it is!!  After 20 years of doing it I am tired of the BS

I've sold a bunch of stuff on :techie-ebay: over the years but not so much lately.

Biggest problem I've had is the post office losing a package that I was sending.    :soapbox:  They won't even refund the postage and I am out the part plus have to refund the buyer's money. If I payed for insurance on every package it would cost a small fortune and all I would get back on lost packages is the amount the buyer gets back.

Most of the stuff I send to us here tractor folks I insure for $50. Nearly no extra $$.

I've had some get misplaced a bit but haven't had to make a claim yet.

I think everything shipped now through usps comes with $50 worth of "" free""" insurance.

On buying i never had any troubles ’till now, all works perfect. 👍

As a seller i tried just few times.

once i try to sell my old accordion. A beauty in White and was in perfect condition after 38Years.

I only get a bad ebay rating from a user named „ robycod“ , what was just a jokeraccount as i found out later.

He meant money Sent, but no goods arrived, and i was blocked on ebay for a Month,

- that was now several years back -  so the rules to sell are still hard at this time.

I had lot’s of problems to collect 3 weeks evidence for ebay until i had all evidence to show ebay there was never a Deal we did made

and he was just a Joker Account.

Finally i can sent ebay lot‘s of collected evidences because a friend let me look on his Account

to collect Evidence that he was just a Joker.

So you can‘t do anything against such idiots and ebay’s anonymity make it easier for them.

A deal is in my opinion a simple and honest thing,

Find yourself a price you want to pay

pay on wich Way you prefer

and get your goods

The anonymous of the internet hides a few idiots behind their Accounts they feel safe because of their beliefed anonymity, but that’s not the mainstream.

On the other hand to sent things only tracked and insuranced is allway‘s a good idea,

even it‘s a bit more expensive, safes a lot of troubles.

If you are shipping with USPS Priority Mail it is insured but most of my sales were small engine parts weighing less than two pounds and could be sent First Class Package for half of what Priority would cost. I sold several hundred pieces ao the added cost was prohibitive.

There are plenty of idiots in the world that make life difficult for us. I sell stuff on eBay, CL and Facebook Marketplace.

My two recent eBay experiences were slightly different.

I bought a $75 product and the seller never shipped it. I documented my nice requests for shipping information multiple times and ultimately a refund. After no response I opened a case and eBay refunded my PayPal account in one week. That was two weeks ago.

Over the summer I sold and item. The seller gave me a wrong address and the WORTHLESS USPS "lost" the package in the process. The USPS issue is still open and I think an employee stole it be honest (it could be tracked to the last point of contact, then vanished). Seven months and apparently it vaporized into thin air. Anyway, the buyer stopped responding because I was going to work something out with him. After multiple documented requests for him to contact me to resolve the issue with no response, eBay closed the case in my favor and released the entire payment to me.

Of them all, I've had the best success in unloading things on FB Marketplace. That's how I just sold my 552 this week. CL is another venue that has gone down hill with all the idiot dealers overloading it. There must be a thousand ads for cargo trailers in FL :angry-cussingwhite:

it seems like you have to be attorney on eBay sometimes. You bend over backwards so you don't get a negative rating. I sell or have sold on there but only for local pickup. Then craigslist was the next big thing but a lot of bs on there too.My wife has a facebook act. which I have been using for sometime now to sell.My wife likes Amazon over eBay as their service is better. I had to buy a new edge for my snow blade but ended up buying it from RCPW instead since I know those guys and they were the people that sold me my first wheel horse 25 years ago. Im tired of being aggravated by the scammers too.
