Joe Skeeterbomb 18 #1 Posted November 4, 2020 I have a 552 that has had an engine swap at some point. The Tecumseh engine used needs a carb but there’s no markings on it to Figure which one. what Kohler models would fit? Did Kohler have an engine with electric start? oilwell1415 563 #2 Posted November 4, 2020 The 702 was basically the same tractor with a 7hp Kohler K161.

No ID...none that I have found. Was told it was original and felt bad for the guy...bought it without questioning the motor.

That intake and exhaust configuration looks like the Tecky snowblower engine on “Joe” the 1054!

An older syle Kohler with a starter/generator is a better fit for those old tractors. You can use a newer style gear starter engine but the starter blocks the battery tray. Some had model number and other information stamped in the top or side of them. It could be almost covered with that 2nd layer of red paint over the white paint.
Zeek 2,286 #11 Posted November 6, 2020 (edited) That is not the original Tecumseh for that tractor that I'm aware of. I have a 552 that looks like this unless I'm mistaken. It should have a tag between the crankcase and cooling fins that is stamped with HT55C like mine. Edited November 6, 2020 by Zeek
