Pullstart 62,799 #1 Posted November 2, 2020 My 2020 2.7 Turbo muffler on the left, my buddy’s 2019 5.3 muffler on the right. Same 1500 Silverado, totally different muffler design. Mine... 3”. His... 2-3/4” Mine... gazillion pounds, measured in cubic yards. His... Normal. @WVHillbilly520H care to explain to a common folk like me why my turboed 4 cylinder needs this plus another resonator? The turbo in the diesel world is considered the first spark arrestor and it also quiets the sound. @PeacemakerJack I finally stuck that little stainless muffler on today! Unfortunately the OEM has to meet "SPL" emissions as well as carbon emissions, and you will probably agree that with your current setup it stays at higher RPMS until cruising and most 4 and 6 cylinder vehicles I have owned were usually a higher hertz exhaust note than many V8s (think fast and furious Hondas vs the Charger exhaust note) at least that what was explained to me back in my exhaust manufacturing days... And most 4 cylinder O.E. style aftermarket mufflers Walker made were bigger than the V8 counterparts but usually with 1.5" to 1.75" piping not 3"... cschannuth 3,816 #8 Posted November 2, 2020 (edited) They are definitely trying to make sure your truck doesn’t sound like a ricer. I have the 2.7 eco-boost V6 in my F150 work truck and it is the fastest truck I’ve ever owned but I see a lot of people putting loud mufflers on them and, to me, as a big block V-8 guy, they sound terrible. The 5.3, like I have in my suburban, sounds good but it needs all the performance help it can get. That’s just my guess. Notice those spring loaded flappers in the pipe. They block 1/3 of the pipe when fully open because of the counter weight. I removed it and picked up over 1 mpg! It’s been straight piped for 6,000 miles or so and I am already enjoying the new sound that the Amazon rip off stainless 40 series wannabe is helping to create! It’s much more mellow than the Honda Civic sound it was making, but the fuel savings seemed like enough of a difference for me to be ignorant of the sound. JoeM 7,871 #10 Posted November 2, 2020 I suppose to the average guy, mufflers can be baffling! That was sad! I know the magic must some kind of dust sprinkled on the inside. Found this out the first time I tried to make my own. Put a Briggs v twin on my loader. No OE stuff fit right. Took a look inside of an Onan muffler and said to self, I can make one from a old propane can and pipe. Went to work and shazam I got me a custom muffler. Loud, the reverse engineering no go. I am about to get an actual Flow master 50 series cat back dual kit for my 14 5.3. If you search enough you will fill that $1200 kit for less than $700. Walker Dynomax Ultra Flo may be a better option if you were just changing muffler/s for sound and performance. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Not all louver tubes are patterned the same or perforated with the same size holes or amounts... Is definitely a lot that goes into the way each specific muffler is designed for each vehicle and its purpose thereof... Believe me after 22 years in the only Walker brand aftermarket exhaust factory in the lower 48 i have seen All kinds of sales gimmicks that really didn't catch on just like "Flow valve" in the stock GM trucks. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
