Claims that diesel will outperform gas usually are from those that aren't running full throttle. Keep in mind that those torque and horsepower specifications are measured at full throttle. A diesel doesn't make that much more torque. In cars yes, because the max rpm speed difference is huge. In small governed engines, you could compare a 10 hp diesel to an 12-14hp maybe 16hp gasoline motor. Oh and diesel because they are injected will not suffer as much from a forced drop in rpm. they always run a ideal airfuel ratio, whereas a carb can't adjust the ratio that easily,( low rpm but the throttle valve is all the way open) Now turboing these things is something else, no hassle whit carbs and they all have an oil pump. littleredrider 409 #27 Posted January 8, 2021 (edited) I haven’t been on in ages, but I’ll comment. I have a 10 horse single on a 520. Ive owned the motor twice, got used more 10 years ago than the past 3 I’ve had it. It’s a yanmar clone off evilbay. Wasn’t too bad fitting it on the 520, but I first had in a 1045 long frame I put together. Has to raise the dash tower n hood couple inches IIRC.under the 520 hood, just need to move the muffler. I didn’t plan on using any attachments so never hooked up the PTO. I have a loader on it, and every time I use it I’m amazed the torque it has. I don’t think I’ve ever had it full throttle, 3/4 is prolly it. I the tires will loose traction before stalling the motor. I just had to put a starter in it, recoil broke years ago, but wasn’t fun trying to start it that way. It’s torn apart now, if not it wouldn’t get finished. There is a site that sells parts for these, rebuild parts, I’ll see if I can link it.... https://auto-express.co/collections/diesel-engine-parts Edited January 8, 2021 by littleredrider
