Raposo 530 #1 Posted October 27, 2020 Hey guys, I have a B80 and I was working it this weekend with the lawn sweeper. I noticed some additional noise coming from the rear end and I noticed the pulley was pulling off the shaft and rubbing on the belt guard. Is there a way to prevent this from happening in the future? ebinmaine 68,334 #2 Posted October 27, 2020 Sounds like you've got a set screw that has come loose. Without being able to see it in pictures or in person I would have a couple different concerns. First of all I would wonder if the seal behind it is bad and leaking oil onto it which would help loosen it up. Second, make sure that the pulley itself is still tight if it's been shucking back and forth in there for very long it may have damaged the hole just a bit.. Hopefully with a new seal and a new set screw you'll be back in business.

953 nut 55,769 #6 Posted October 28, 2020 I would remove and inspect the pulley. If no damage is found a new key for the shaft, a new set-screw and soma blue loctite for the threads should do the trick.

Raposo 530 #8 Posted October 28, 2020 That makes sense, I’ll have to really clean it up and see what I’m looking at, the pulley has no slop at all just backed off the shaft...I had no idea there was a seal too

Raposo 530 #10 Posted October 29, 2020 (edited) Alright guys, silly question! I feel like a total noob. I am draining the fluid from the rear end in my 1974 B80 4 speed. And I’m planning on using the trans bolts at the top of the transmission. My question is how much oil do I add to a 4 speed? Until it pours out the drain plug when the tractor is level? ebinmaine 68,334 #11 Posted October 29, 2020 No worries. .we all gotta learn. Raise the front of the tractor as much as you can safely do so. There's a bolt in the middle of the bottom that creates a hump INSIDE the transmission. 3 and 4 speeds get 1.5 quarts of 80w90. 6 and 8 speeds get 2 quarts. The easiest way to fill is through the shifter hole. There's a jamb nut on a dog point screw tht holds it in place. That'll give you a much larger hole in which to pour thick oil. It's a VERY good idea to replace the shift boot. That keeps water out of transmission. The seal you're looking for is easy to change from the outside. I use a small sharp screwdriver to drive it in a little then pry it out. ANY more questions just ask. 1
Raposo 530 #12 Posted October 29, 2020 Thank you so much! I have a shift boot ordered and will deff replace it! Do you have a part number on the seal? I’ll pull the tire and get this swapped too while she’s apart. Thanks again guys, this forum rocks.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,095 #13 Posted October 29, 2020 You could have one of 2 transmissions used at the time - Model 5080 Model 5084 The difference is 2-piece pinion gears and 1-piece gears. If you go to the top of the Transmission section some files have been pinned listing the SKF seal numbers. Garry
71_Bronco 1,072 #14 Posted October 29, 2020 Wheel Horse Parts and More dot com is run by a member on here. He has your seal and boot in one stop. I would also inspect the key and key-way on the input shaft of the transmission, and I would replace the key anyways, they are cheap and readily available. I get mine from the local Tractor Supply. For the seal, I am thinking it's part number 1303, 3/4" seal. Someone please confirm that part number though.
WHX?? 49,157 #15 Posted October 29, 2020 Right here is all the part numbers you would need for the seal As Bronc said one stop shop here .... https://wheelhorsepartsandmore.com/
