A 72-77? B80! 8 speed

Ok, I’m going to buy a B80, if the guy accepts my cash offer... it’s been sitting for a while.. Outside, not under cover!! it’s got the mule drive and front tank... so it’s between a 72 -77? It doesn’t have any attachments.  Ok... I haven’t studied B80s for ever .. what year is it? Sorry, I don’t have any pictures. It’s gonna be mine... if it isn’t sold by tomorrow afternoon!😀👍

74-77 were the only years they made the B80.

But I gave my son my B80 and he loves it. You can cut a long time on a tank of gas. Plenty of power. If you get it post pictures please. What is the front tank your referring to?

Yes the tank is in front under the hood . I have one but it's a 4 speed.

Gas tank, versus the rear they went to in the late 70s.

AHS: I have many of this model from the no name 8 up to I believe the 308 model been a while for that one. All great tractors. The 8 speed you will like because put it in low 1 and walk with it  like loading on a truck. Enjoy it and take care of it.

74 and 75 B-80's were 4 speeds. 76 and 77 were 8 speed The fuel tank was switched from under the hood to under the seat in 78. Also in 78 the B series became just lawn tractors.

My 1974 Wheel Horse B-80 is my go to tractor for most any kind of work or project outside needing a tractor!

 

I think this design was one of the best Wheel Horse made.

Over the last 30+ years I've owned many WH's, my first was a 1974 B80 4sp, out of all of them that's the one I wish I had back.

I got it!! For $150! And the complete clutch is worth that!! And an extra carburetor, muffler, voltage regulator and complete clutch. 8 speed, front gas tank; so it gotta be a 76 or a 77! I’m so excited!!! You know where to find me; the garage!!😀👍

That Nelson muffler is also worth a fair penny. 

Clutch set looks near new. 

Starter is worth some too.

The B80 is a great machine, and can do everything  the popular  C160 does just has a little less grunt for spinning a big deck or big blower. It is my main tractor  and preferred over my hydrostatic.

 

Of course since this picture it has a K321  and I added dual  hydraulics  lift😁

I know! The Nelson muffler on it has a rotted out bottom. The clutch on it looks to be new. The starter on it has two broken teeth. The metal on it is straight!  I took the engine tin off it to blow the mud dobs out. The only thing is the front gas tank the fuel shut off needs to be replaced as well as the little grommet, the little grommet concerns me... I wonder if it the same as the rear tank ones?

My Patriot Horse and Cinnamon Horse both have metal tanks I've put in. 

I know there's a way to replace the grommets. 

Search threads for answers or start your own. Or both.

The plastic gas tank shut off and grommet are pretty much the same as most small engine and generator plastic tank shut off valve and grommet, replace them both they come in a set. goolge it.

Ok, I should start a threading engines, I wanna get this engine running! The engine was just a little bit stuck... just a little bit.. nothing I couldn’t get by turning the flywheel screen for a minute. There was no carb attached, but there was a plastic bag scrunched cup plugging the little intake hole. There was a little bit of loose rust in the exhaust port, I dug in there with a my finger and scooped out about 95% of it. I want to pop off the head and have a look in there.... but what about the head bolts breaking... this engine is old and tiny! Nothing that can’t be fixed!😀👍

Headbolts on that particular engine are not at all known for breaking so you will very likely be just fine.

If the six-sided head of any particular bolt is rusted to a point that a six-sided socket doesn't fit it quite right just be careful. 

 

Not a bad idea at all to take an air hose and blow down next to each bolt and around the plug to prevent some of that crap from flying around or into the engine.

Yup, it felt like it. I changed the oil, and no pieces came out!👍 I cleaned the points. I rolled it over and over, by hand and it rolled over fine.  I put the carb into cleaner. It needs a fuel pump (do to mud dobs!), now are all the parts the same for all K series engines? The 8hp just looks so tiny!
