So I just acquired a 1986 308-8. Looks like the oil seal is leaking pretty bad is that seal on the outside of the case or inside. I assume I need to use puller to remove that crank pulley? Thanks.

Yes you have to have a small puller to get those seals out which is easy. You should definitely make an investment in a puller.

I love the sound of those old eight.

tell us some more about your tractor and

Paid 50 bucks for it. Couldn’t resist. Another one for my beginnings of a collection.

Awesome tractor! same amount I gave for my 308! But yours is in way better shape. Hopefully its just a leaky seal. Great find!

The engine crankshaft seal is on the outside and once the pulley is removed you will probably need to pretty much destroy the seal to  remove it.

Those little M8’s you cant beat.
You will love it.

Make sure you take note on how deep the original seal is in the block. Additionally, clean the area before removal and check for any burrs on the crank.

All the best.

Ok cool thanks. Do you use a 3 jaw puller? I just don’t want to damage pulley. Thanks again.

Better to use a bearing splitter, you can borrow them from some auto parts stores.
