Super Tech Oil at Walmart

Recommended Posts

Bill D

I found this oil at Walmart.  Cheap and rated SG.  Is anyone here using it?  I didn't buy it yet.  I would like some opinions on it first. Thanks.  Bill

Oil is cheap.. engines are not.

I use that type of thing in my old one lungers, but .. perhaps its just old fashioned bias, I wouldn't use anything but a good brand name high zinc oil in these engines.

Oils today are much better than oils back in the late 50's and 60's. The secret is to change oil frequently and check the level often and then it shouldn't matter what you use.

You use what works for you. Everyone lives in different environments and uses there equipment in different ways. My late dad was a Pennzoil guy. I use what ever is cheap and works. Currently i live in northeast indiana and i dont use my machine to any where near there intended purposes. I use Rural King oil Harvest king sae 30. I use it in all my old iron horses and deere. Except my 2010 JD x540 I used valvoline max life 10w30 it calls for a high class oil because deere's are snobby you know. . My late dad used sae 30 all year around and we never blew a gasket or had other issues. Dads theory on the old single cylinder engines along with other garden tractor guys around my area also agree. The engine will get just as hot in the winter if not hotter if snow gets up in and around the engine while your working it so just stick with the oil that is thick and will take the abuse.  I also have not had any issues due to the oil i use. My big d series i used harvest king sae 10w30. Im thinking next time i may use the max life on the d160. Any Thoughts on using max life in the d160? My question is what is the big diference in oils besides thickness or coating potential?

Oil IS NOT Oil............

I don't want to be using some man made reformulated oil that was already used is another engine.....cooked down, filtered, additives added..ETC>

Im gonna get the good stuff !!!!     I LOVE MY MACHINES   !!!!

I only asked because I have an M12 with 1300 hours that's burning alot of oil.  I thought maybe I would just feed it the cheap stuff until I can scare up the cash for a rebuild.  Bill

Given that particular scenario I would absolutely run inexpensive oil.

I've not tried to concentrate on the pictures you posted.

Does it by chance list the quantity of zinc or phosphate?

I asked that mostly out of curiosity but I would still use that oil...

I has the older SG rating.  Most small engine oil is SJ rated.  It should have plenty of zinc with that designation.  It's my understanding that this oil is made by Warren Oil company.  Don't know much about them.  This M12 still makes good power in spite of how much oil it uses.

Without posting a link can you give me a rough idea how much that stuff is per court or whatever?

I think I'm paying something like $4.50 a quart for  Kinetix brand oil which supposedly has the correct amount of zinc..

Make sure the breather below the carburetor is not clogged.

I think this product has been discontinued.  The stuff I saw on the store shelf is probably the last they had.

lol

popcorn ?

I found Valvoline VR1 conventional oil at local parts store (Advance ?) - might give it a try

if I do give it a try - it will be the first conventional oil I've used in decades

since the late 80's I have used synthetic oil in everything : cars, trucks , motorcycles - and tractors including the old Wheel Horse 704

primarily Mobil 1 - but recently switched to Quaker State UD

( not a fan of Quaker State back in the 60's / 70's - but their current synthetic oil is supposed to be good )

Cannot recall the last time I purchased conventional oil - or straight grade oil ... ? ...   possibly late 70's or early 80's

but recently moved my in-laws out of their house and got some left over chemicals and lubricants - and now have a quart of 30w Wolf's Head ...

If the crankcase vent is not open the pressure can lead to oil consumption. This information is from the troubleshooting guide of the Kohler Service Manual in our manuals section.
