was just curious how the Wheel Hoorse hoods are held together. Specifically the 60's round hoods.

I don’t want to bring up the topic for fear of virtual flogging by @Stormin and friends... but I have pictures in my dump truck life project build...

There must have been a machine over the years doing the spot welds as there is a consistent pattern... or the same person had that job for a long time!  The spot welder must have been inspired by Al Capone.  Weld early and weld often!

Dump truck? Dump truck? Oh yes! Some where in the dim and distant past that rings a bell. Now let me think.

Thanks all. I was trying to figure out how easy it would be to stretch a round hood. I could use a bit more room on my Wisconsin Lawn Ranger project, and was considering this as an option.

After looking at the hood i have, I dont know how viable of an option that would be.

A spot weld cutter is like a 5/16" hole saw. Most use a center punch in the center of the weld to register the cutter center point but that would bend the outer panel. I use a small drill bit to make a small divot for the spring loaded center point.
