gigi 4 #1 Posted October 7, 2020 I recently pick up a mowing deck for my rj 58 and am probably going to restore it. My question is what part(s) of the blades get sharpened? Is it just the tips or the entire side of the cutting edge of the blade? It looks like both sides of the blades, minus the tips, have never been sharpened and are equal in thickness. gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,033 #2 Posted October 7, 2020 Just the leading edge of the blade tip is sharpened. The 6005 blade tip set is still available from Toro but worth as much as the deck. https://www.psep1.biz/showcart.asp?cs_url=https://www.psep1.biz/arinet.asp%23/s/TO//6005/2/&instance_id= Parts Tree https://www.partstree.com/parts/toro-6005/ Garry
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,033 #4 Posted October 7, 2020 I have never seen the blade tips but wondering is there are mower sections available that match the rivet or bolt spacing? Two sides are sharp so they could be flipped for double the life. I know they will take it because there are gas powered shredders that use them as flails. Those have about a 5/8" hole centered near the back and are slipped onto approximately a 10" shaft with spacers. The revolving head has 4 of these shafts with the flails staggered on two of the shafts accomplished by spacer length. You could get a box of them for the same money. bottjernat1 2,190 #6 Posted October 7, 2020 I asked a local shop about making the beval and cutting edge on the other side. 60 a piece. Ouch. I bought these NOS for 30 for all 4. The local shop said the steal is special. Why wont regular steal stock work?

gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,033 #8 Posted October 7, 2020 It looks like a RM-324 deck as does the serial number but the housing below the deck would have originally been cast iron. The steel housing likely came from an 1958-1960 deck along with the blades. Garry
