JCM 9,130 #2 Posted October 2, 2020 Waiting for Patti to come home from work and seeing that I didn't prepare dinner this evening, now I know what's on the menu. I made chili this week so plenty left in the fridge so I figured I was off the hook tonight.

8ntruck 6,991 #13 Posted October 3, 2020 (edited) We made a trip to Lansing today. A store that specializes in a whole bunch of niche type foods had some of these in stock. We are planning to make a day trip to the U.P. next week to see some of the fall color and get some real, proper pastys. Sorry about the picture. Didn't realize it was that bad until I posted it. Anyhow, you folks will probably get the idea. Edited October 3, 2020 by 8ntruck

SylvanLakeWH 25,493 #15 Posted October 3, 2020 Not technically “food”, but can certainly substitute in a pinch... A Detroit original: (also, after hoisting a few cold ones, helps discern Michigan’s notorious weather).... 2

Someday, we'll have to get to Cornwall and find out for ourselves. Pastys came to Michigan from workers in the copper mines, many who were from Finnland, Scottland, and England.

wh500special 2,163 #24 Posted October 5, 2020 I took the intention of this thread to talk about regional foods. So to throw my hat in the ring: Local favorites here in the St. Louis area: Pork Steaks Toasted Ravioli https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toasted_ravioli Gooey Butter Cake https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gooey_butter_cake BBQ Pig Snoots St.Paul Sandwich https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Paul_sandwich Gerber Sandwich https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerber_sandwich St Louis Style Pizza https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Louis-style_pizza Provel Cheese https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provel_cheese The Slinger https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slinger_(dish) Iced Tea - really didn't catch on until the 1904 Worlds Fair and Olympics in St. Louis Ice cream cones -kind of the same story as with iced tea, popularized during 1904 World's fair I was going to claim the Fried Pork Tenderloin sandwich too, but the googles tell me that's an Indiana thing. Some of these are pretty awesome, others aren't (pizza). Most are gut busters...especially the slinger. I think there are lot of neat things around the country that are specific to each area.
