Bought Another Tractor This Evening 1966 876

Got a "Heads Up" from my neighbor about a sale with a Wheel Horse in the inventory.

Went down to take a look and a funny thing happened.......I bought it

1966 Wheel Horse Model 876 with mower deck (no holes)

Runs, (no smoke), hydro smooth, hydrolic lift, slot hitch, lights front and rear work, no dents and good tires

$350

Saaaweet Bob ... nice patina, cigar lighter is ther, SG motor.... what's not to like. Cept for the seat ...sorry....that's gotta go!

Right now the plan is to restore.  I have to bring it home and give it a good cleaning first. Might have to have a little fun with it first before I make a decision

Gave it a bath this morning to see what was under some of the mouse house and the old oil and grease.

Not really too awful bad.  The front tires are Wheel Horse  Must be original

Not sure what the device is in the third picture with the fuel hoses and the zip ties?  Maybe a "Flux Converter"????????

 

BTW:  Everyone liked the fancy seat cover so much, I decieded that I would put names in a hat and draw the lucky winner in a few days!!!!!!!

That's a later model pulse style fuel pump.

I don't know what the impetus was for removing the original one instead of rebuilding it but apparently it went bad at some point....

Is that hydraulic lift factory? Looks to me like a different shade of red, possibly added after?

I don't know when those pumps came on the scene so to speak but they're very popular in the 90s and 2000s.

I've seen quite a few older tractors like ours retro-fitted with them. 

 

 

Most likely aftermarket like from another company but it's impossible for me to know. I'm not familiar enough with the later models to really answer that.

 

I don't know how much you can move that unit around but are there any markings on it that would give you a name?

Not factory that old. No. That shouldn't have had a lever style pump either. Those showed up just a little later.

The pump that should be on there is a vacuum diaphragm style but it looks exactly like a lever pump from the outside.   Mounts to the same place and everything. Just does not have a lever that goes into the camshaft. The diaphragm is pushed up and down by the pressure of the Piston going up and down and the fuel is pumped by that action of the diaphragm.

Here's a different picture. The pump in the other post is a Kawasaki pump.  The pump in this post is a Briggs pump.

I would, but I don't have a K181 around to test fit on.  I thought about making some up but realized the plate for the M would be different from a K due to the throttle linkage.  Plates for small blocks would be different than the big blocks.  I don't like to make things for other people unless I can guarantee it will fit properly.

 

 I would like to know who made the fuel pump cover plate you have now?  It almost looks like a Kohler part?   Bill

I had hoped you would realize that I was pulling your leg by the smiley face. When I get a chance I will try to identify the plate and I will let you know. I’ve kinda got myself into a tight spot with projects. Still need to get the 416 corrected and out of the shop.  Probably an afternoons work on the C160.  Rearrange one of the sheds because someone, who will remain nameless, bought another tractor. Get some more work in on the bathroom remodel (or I really will be sleeping with the dogs). And this is before I am able to get the new tractor on the lift in my shop.  And I really need to rebuild a K301 for another project.  But......Life is Good!

 

It’s a good thing I’m retired or I’d never have time for this much fun
