42" Side Discharge Attach-A-Matic - Center Grease fitting not accepting grease

Recommended Posts

TC10284

Today I prepped up my 314-8 to mow tomorrow and found that my 42" Side Discharge deck center grease fitting is not accepting anymore grease. I tried replacing the grease fitting with a new one and it didn't make a difference. I can get a small squirt into it, but a second squirt and third gets harder until I can't squeeze any harder. Then the grease will just come out of the end of the grease gun tip when I start to disconnect it.

Not sure what's going on here unless it is plugged up with dirt or something. It didn't do this the last time I used it earlier this year. The only thing I've done is take off blades to sharpen them and put back on. I even took the center blade off the deck thinking I tightened it too much and tried that way, but same result.

Does this apply to your deck?

TC10284, agree with g west above on that possible issue, but I would also remove the fitting and use a solid wire to probe the depth of the bearing shaft hole , that acts as flow point for lower bearing grease , pete

I checked the model number and it is one of the newer Toro branded decks. The model # doesn't match up.

But, later today I will try a wire first and if nothing, try loosening the nut per the advisory.

Alright so I took out the grease fitting and stuck a small screwdriver in until it stopped. Didn't find anything other than grease. It definitely has grease - some of the red kind that I ran out of a few months ago.

I took off the nut and washer on top of the spindle also, and hit it with a rubber hammer. Didn't seem to help any. Put it all back together and couldn't get more than one pump of grease in.
