Another Garage Sale Score !

Recommended Posts

Well went to a sale today and picked up this sweet little dump cart to go with my Simplicity tractor. I also picked up this little wood chipper but I am having a little trouble finding any information about it. I do not have a model # only a serial number. Runs pretty good. Recoil screams a little bit. Then stops, then screams again but then goes away. Also got this tow behind broadcast spreader. Picked everything up for 100 bucks. Pretty happy about it. If anyone has any info on the chipper I would like to hear it. Thanks

Love the old Simp, and very true on the Mac shredder, I have one for my WH and it is a tank. My MacKissic has no model number either, think they only made a few sizes..

Wow I didnt realize they cost that much new. Still not finding one like mine with only an 5 hp engine. maybe they just made it special for Agway but i cant find one. I will tinker it with it next week, see if I cant get the squeal to go away. Guess im going to have to find some sticks to jam through it too ! @Stepney is yours on a trailer or mounted on the front?

Remove the recoil starter and you will come to a square shaft that will only rotate one way -  the starter clutch. There should be a flat disc on the end of it with a small hole in it. Squirt some oil in the hole. That loads up a felt that supplies lubrication to a bushing in the center

On some Briggs engines there is a hole under the decal in the center of the recoil. You can poke through the decal with a pointed object to access the oil point without removing the recoil.

I'll have to dig up a photo, but it mounts off the front of the tractor and runs on the PTO.

Really impressive when driven with a 16hp single Kohler..

As for the Briggs.. oil will shut it up for a while but I prefer to pull it right apart and polish the shaft/ add a little heavy grease. Problem solved, never an issue again.

I cant even imagine the power that would have. The movie Fargo comes to mind.

Here's the beast..

Pretty tame to run compared to some I've run, but at the same time WAY more aggressive.

That is a nice set up. Looking at the one I picked up I am thinking of how I can mount it on a trailer or just put larger wheels and tires on it. Seems like it would be a little tippy on uneven ground.

The SC800 looks like yours and it now comes with an 8hp engine.

I have an old 12PT with an 8 hp engine and it does great. It now comes with a 11.5hp engine. Today's horses must be smaller so it takes more of them.

I also have a grinder for planer knives so able to keep the chipper knife sharp.

Nice haule, you did very well.    :handgestures-thumbupleft:      Make sure you are chipping green wood, old dead wood tends to break into short pieces that will jam up inside.

They lead you to believe the SC800 will shred up to 3/4" material. It may do a green corn stock but wood over 1/4" is hard on them. A sharp chipper knife will take care of anything down to 1/4".

The PT-12 shredder limit is 1" and anything over 3/8" is hard on it. Pounds it's self to death and not necessary.

I run a lot of compost through the shredder. It has to be fairly dry. Moist material one would think would go through instantly turns to mud and plugs the 3/4" screen. You wonder where all the water came from.

Have taken raw leaves and hay to black gold in 6 weeks but it was a lot of work. Two weeks in it had cooled down so put it through the shredder and into the 2nd bin. Next day it was so hot you could not put your hand into it.

At week four shredded it again with the same result. You need to get the air into it. Shredded again at 6 weeks.

Bins are 2.4 yards and ended up with about 1/2 yard of black gold in 6 weeks.

I have talked to people over the years that have owned these smaller shredders and all say the same thing, they are disappointed and expected more out of them. Either they sold them or broke them by running bigger or dead wood through it

They are not commercial grade for branches,  basically it's twigs and leaves.  Hauling to the brush/burn pile is alot easier

Was given an "11.5 hp" Toro chipper/shredder.  Tried it once and it was way too much work for what it did.  Sold it and used the money to buy a used floor model 15" Powermatic drill press.  DP is much more valuable to me.

Ok here's what you do. Hook the trailer to the Cub (or find a Cub trailer) :) Drive up and down your side streets with the Speedanza looking for yards that need cleaning. Drive both the Simplicity and Cub to said yards. Use the blower to blow leaves and trash into the trailer. This should keep you busy. :helmet:

As a side note. all the garage sales I have stopped at only have Playskool toys and dishware. :(

There should be a hitch "SOMEWHERE" on the Speedanza then.

Jeeze, $100 for that? I bet you couldn't get your wallet out fast enough.

Very nice find. I went to a few tag sales this weekend, came home empty handled.

Though, I did pick up a push leaf-blower this weekend off FB Marketplace for $50, with a running K91 on it.

I actually got more for my $100. I got the cart, the chipper, and the spreader.I also got two pair of vice grips, a come-along, and a small floor jack. Yes, I was wearing a mask. My CORONA MASK !!!
