service pto pulley bearings

Recommended Posts

today, after wiping down my 91-312-8 , with marvel mystery oil , just to make it look much better, i dropped the mule drive to check out the bearings, first glance , lucky, rubber bearing seals on each bearing . popped off all seals , with pocket screwdriver  both bearings were very low on grease , cleaned them both out. refilled them both with lucas red and tacky grease, 550 temp drop point. hand packed the bearings to insure total lube , easily put those seals back in place . bearings were solid and smooth, pto action and belt drive were  very quiet . i have been going after any bearing that has a regular lubricant in it and replacing with hi temp grease , its more than worth it , quieter and smoother . that's what i did today, pete

Years ago a couple of my less bright troops thought it would be a great idea to wipe down the M-37s with Diesel to make them shine up a bit for inspection.  (this was way back before camo paint, we were still running semi-gloss OD)  They did look great until some other trucks drove through the dirt motor pool stirring up dust which clung nicely to the diesel.  Doesn't the MM attract dust, grass clippings, chaff etc????

PFREDERI, was just out and no clinging grass or dust , you wipe it down till dry , looks pretty spiffy . i also just did another set of pto bearings, the key is to have the easy pop out rubber seals , typically those bearings have one or the other , rarely both . i think that for the ease to try mmo on your rig is a no brainer , try rear fender area or belt guard , warning , once to start and see the glow its tuff to stop, pete
